sounds like you used the right amount if it dried in 20 sec.
so just buff it until the excess product off.
As far as night driving, vision shouldn't be a problem.
use a damp towel or even glass cleaner. the Rain X has adhered to your glass.

I must apply RainX pretty heavy then.... But I will let it dry for 10 minutes or more.... Sit down for a while, come back... whatever.

Here is a product to use for removing Rain-X, or just about anything that is on the glass.

No Touch Auto Glass Stripper (GS8). It is a bit messy, but does work. Check out your local auto parts stores.

I have found that the best/easiest way to prevent the RainX streaks is to first clean the windows then apply the RainX then wash the car. So basically the car wash remove the haze and leaves no streaks. I haven't noticed any reduction in how well the RainX works either. I never get any streaks form it when done this way. If I apply after washing I almost always get streaks, just have to keep wiping the glass to get it all...

Well I got home from work and took another shot it this windshield. It appears that with a lot of effort, most of the excess RainX is off.

I can't say that this stuff is worth the effort. If you don't do everything just right, your going to have issues. I guess you need to have a perfectly clean window ( no windex residue or the like ), apply the exact amount of product ( with the proper applicator ), and buff it off in the exact amount of time ( with the proper applicator ). Next time I think I'll try a very light coat of wax. Or just be happy with a good clean window.

my method: (please keep in mind i don't get steaks, ever.)
take shop towel
apply on squirt of product from 6-9 inches away (number's not important as long as it doesn't get a lot in one place.)
wipe/buff product

I too have found RainX to be painful to work with. I abandoned it years ago...

Well, like i mentioned above, I get a paper towel soaked with the RainX, apply it to the window, working it in pretty well... walk away for 10 minutes or so, then come back with a wet towel and a dry towel. Wipe with the wet one, wipe with the dry one.
