*UPDATE*
First I want to thank everyone for their input. I know there are a lot of very good detailers out there that know more than I ever will. Now.... Following the advice of another member(Thanks Tom) I decided to follow the advice of the first reply made by Rick.I know Michael, you tried to save me some money but I wanted to use the best to start with, but thanks anyway. So, I taped off a little square on the hood where I knew it looked bad. After the first pass....no change. After the second pass...a little difference. But by the 4th pass...WOW!!!!!!! What a difference!!!!! It looks so much better. The sratches are still there but not near as bad!!! Im going to order some more foam pads today(the ones ive got are shot). I did 1 pass on half the hood today and Im going to keep on the one side doing 1 area at a time until ive made enough passes to make it all look great, then take a picture of the difference. Since Im doing it by hand,im not getting in a hurry. Its not my daily driver so it can sit inside until im done.,Anyway thanks again to everybody for the help.Im very blessed to have a site like this to come and get help. I will always continue to use their products on all my cars!!! Thanks !!!!!! P.S. Im still humbled.
Glad you are on your way to solving your problem. I have found that Ultmate Compound works just fine without following up with a polish...even on my black Harley Davidsons.
Now go buy a good quality pc to really "git-r-done" and change your name from "Humbled" to "Proud One".
Tom
p.s. Throw away your terry cloth stuff. I marred the heck out of one of my black Harleys using a terry covered foam pad.
Already done it!!! The funny thing is,if you go to any(and all) of the major auto part stores and ask for foam pads, they look at you like your crazy. One guy said"nobody uses those anymore". But if you get online and look on any of the top notch car sites they all ONLY use foam pads. I think there is a place for terricloth, but not working with paint. Thanks again. Im glad I took your advice!!!
I'm late to this thread (as usual), glad to hear it is working out for you. You have learned one BIG IMPORTANT thing (especially working by hand)...DON'T RUSH. You noticed that the test area on your hood after the first pass, nothing really changed. You kept at it and soon saw the 'change.' You get a BIG attaboy!
whenever u want the perfect products for a perfect shine and u are a rookie
first start with a dual action polisher like megs DA porter cable DA griots DA those are all the same
then watch mike ******* how to videos from those vids i learned almost everything about detailing
Quick question for Rick or Mike. How aggressive is the ultimate compound compared to your diamond cut compound. Dont worry,Im not going to buy any.LOL!!!
Ultimate Compound is less aggressive than M85 Diamond Cut, but more importantly it uses vastly different abrasives to do the job. UC is derived from M105 Ultra Cut Compound, which is actually more aggressive than M85, but things are toned down a bit with UC and UC is much more user friendly on a DA than M105. M85 is a diminishing abrasive compound designed for rotary use only, while M105 is a non diminishing micro abrasive that can be used by rotary, DA or even by hand. M105 will not only cut faster than M85 under identical conditions, but it will leave a nicer finish as well. UC should also leave a nicer finish than M85 due to it having the same micro abrasive technology as M105.
