  • Soft paint: Swirl Remover 2.0 vs. Ultimate Polish

I have a Toyota Aygo with very soft and sensitive clearcote paint. Obviously I want to keep the paint in the best possible condition. Unfortunately, the paint is rather thin. I wonder, therefore, with which product I can maintain the paint best in the long term. I have found 2 very mild polishes. The veteran with DAT technology, Swirl Remover 2.0 and the modern variant based on SMAT technology, Ultimate Polish.
I wonder which of these two products is best suited for my Aygo.

    Ult. Polish would be good.

Either one of the two products mentioned should work well, but what is equally important (and perhaps ever more so) is your choice of applicator material and application method. If this paint really is super sensitive, and you're working by hand, then it is critically important to NOT allow your fingertips to press through the applicator or you run the very real risk of creating "cheetah spot" marring regardless of product used. Also, stay away from any sort of aggressive material in the applicator: cotton terry cloth can be quite aggressive and even with good technique can easily haze very delicate paint. Use of a soft foam applicator is best, and keeping your fingers broadly across the pad, and using light to moderate pressure, will minimize marring.

If you're using a buffer of some sort, again stick with a soft pad - at least to start - and use moderate pressure. You may find that a more aggressive pad is needed to remove defects, even if that pad creates some very slight DA hazing and that a quick follow up with a finishing pad and light pressure is needed to finish out completely defect free.
