  • noob here with a question about wax!

I have seen the NXT vs Ultimate discussed here quite a bit. I am currently using NXT, and love it. Used it on all the cars (300SRT Silver, 2012 WRX black, 2012 Corolla S black)

I have been really really enjoying and getting into detailing my cars. However the more research I do, the more confused I get or begin to second guess what i am doing.

I wash my car weekly, and generally in between waxes i use a liquid or spray wax. But where the confusion comes in for me is this...

    When I wax my car;

    1. wash first
    2. clay
    3. NXT.

When I wipe the NXT off after it has dried (15-30 minutes wait time), i often use a spray wax on top of the wax to help clean off the wax. Then use a separate terry clothe to dry it off completely. I do this for every section. Then wipe the whole car down again. I seem to get really great results from NXT.

SO long story i know, my questions are...

am i working against my self by using a spray wax to wipe off the NXT?

AND in wanting to move to Meguiars Ultimate, why would I use a paste wax over the liquid?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi and welcome to MOL!

You shouldn't really need anything to wipe of NXT especially if you are only letting it sit for 15 minutes. The haze should come off quite easily. Not really hurting anything by using a spray wax after but I prefer to let the NXT cure. Paste wax or Liquid is mainly just personal choice unless you are using a DA and it just makes sense to use liquid.

    Hope that helps a bit.

You should probably also think about switching to micro fiber towels instead of terry cloth towels. They are much softer than terry cloth and you run less risk of putting unwanted swirls in your finish. Also welcome to MOL!

There is only one Meg's wax where liquid vs paste makes a difference - UW.

The liquid version will not stain plastic trim, whereas the paste version may.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Oh, and as far as using a spray wax to remove the NXT - I don't think you're hurting anything but it shouldn't be required.

It's probably just a waste of product (the spray wax) more than anything else. As Andy said, remove the NXT, let it cure and then (if you really want to) apply your spray wax.

...Either that or use it after a wash in between waxing!
