Do cars come from the factory with wax on them? How long should you wait to wax new paint, and why?

No, though the dealership may apply something.
You can wax paint on a new car right away. It is baked on at the factory, and has also usually sat for a few weeks in various lots, so plenty of time to cure.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue -

Its a very good idea to also clay a new vehicle before waxing. Most have been through very some "nasty" atmosheres on their way to your local dealer.

I clayed & waxed my then new 2011 Subie the day I drove it home.
I had the DISO to address...plus the car was likely parked in some open storage lot for months upon arrival from Japan.
I did not notice much contaminants on the clay but it was buttery smooth after the process.
Most dealers likely just slap on a quik coat of wax or something but the prep was likely rushed prior to delivery"STRIFE" aka Phil

The only thing that comes from the factory on the paint besides the paint and the clear coat itself is the Dealer Installed Swirl Option.
DISO is free of charge from the manufacture and the dealership, however, they never use it as a sales tactic for some reason.
Clay the whole car...wax it...maintain it...good to go.Comment

No need to wait to wax if you use clay bar, that basically takes off the wax on the new paint along with the contaminants.
