  • I wax once a year. Necessary to remove existing wax before applying a new coat?

As the title asks, is it necessary to remove the existing coat of wax or can I just go ahead and apply another layer over it ? Would anyone recommend washing with Dawn to remove the wax ?

Do you do any maintenance during the years time? If not then your wax is probably gone anyway. Just lay new wax down regardless, it doesn't really matter at all.

A good Cleaner Wax wouldn't hurt. Also washing the car with Dawn dish soap would gently remove any wax buildup. But only use Dawn for that purpose to remove wax. It is not a good idea to use dish liquid on a regular basis. I use Meg Gold Class Shampoo.

Thanks. I have never used Dawn or any similar product to wash any of my cars. I have only used Megs Products.

If you havent used it, and things look good, then no need to start.

As mentioned, it would be up to you if you wanted to look into adding some other products to improve things. That would likely help your finish more than Dawn.

If you're doing a full detail, then any or all of the clay/compound/polish steps will remove the old wax for you anyway.

Either way, there is no need to remove your previous layer of wax (if there is any left).

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Once a year? Sheesh...not taking very good care of the car....lol. Like others have said, just clay the car to remove any of the built up surface contaminants (I'm sure there will be a lot), then throw some wax on.

I would say maybe you want to do some swirl correction...but then again if you're only waxing once a year, it's probably not of great concern to you.

lol i wax mine once a month. and everytime i wash with the ultimate wash and wax. cant wait to start on the new one. i would suggest that you do a full detail, CCP, then wax with 2 coats of 2.0. then for maintenance wash weekly or bi weekly with ultimate wash and wax. that should make the protection stay up to par.

I would get it all cleaned up with your car wash of choice. Then, hit it with a Meg's Clay Bar Kit, Ultimate Polish or Ultimate Compound (depending on paint condition), 2 coats of Ultimate Wax and then up-keep after each wash with Ultimate Quick Detailer and Ultimate Quick Wax.

I usually wax my car about 2 times a year. Maybe more. Depends how much I wash my car. Which is a lot.

I think I wax my car probably every 2 months.
