Re: I'm done detailing. Forget it.
Look what a professional detailer can do!! I finally have a clean slate.
Detailer gave me exacting instructions on how to care for it, most of it I already knew, but he really emphasized how delicate this paint is. They also de-badged the **** dealer logo on the trunk/hatch.

Re: I'm done detailing. Forget it.
Congrats! Glad it worked out for you.
Have a good look at the paint in direct sunlight after the first couple of washes to make sure the detailer didn't hide any swirls with a glaze etc.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: I'm done detailing. Forget it.
Looks real nice! For maintenance I'd use Gold Class Car wash, for in between washes, Ultimate Quik Detailer and/or Ultimate quik wax for more durability. For looks, I'd go for the Gold Class Detailer and Gold Class quick wax. If your car is just a bit dirty, Ultimate Wash and Wax anywhere, plus have lots and lots of quality microfibers.

Also he only uses Mirror Glaze stuff. Anyway I couldnt be happier. He did mention that "Meguiars guys from Corp" come ever so often and teach them new things and show new products. Thank God for Meguiars!!2015 Toyota Corolla S Plus in Barcelona Red Metallic

With the right tools and enough practice, there's absolutely no reason why you can't achieve the same results yourself. Get the DA Polisher, read up on proper DA techniques and product combinations and you will get the same if not similar results.

For those wondering, looks like the Shmitt was a waste of money. I'll just keep buying good ol Meguiars MF mitts, if I wash it ever again. This is my first black car and I know they are harder but damn I just am not up to this.
Just venting. Didn't help that it was 150 degrees outside either.
Obviously, your car is fixed now swirl free...the trick now is...can you maintain it?
BTW...the car probably came that way from the dealership with the swirls. It's a free option that many dealers give you for free, but for some reason they never mention it.
Maybe you can invest a few hundred dollars...take a trip and fly to CA and attending the Meguiar's Detailing 101 on Saturday... The knowledge you learn in 1 day will carry on for the rest of your life and the rest of the cars you own. I think that's worth a plane ticket.

If this is how you're going to react to a few harmless swirls (with enough time, patience, and knowledge from many forum members here, these swirls will be no match for you), maybe you shouldn't have bought a black car. Maybe you should just park it in the garage and put a microfiber cover over it.......

Get a DA Polisher, you'll be surprised with the results you can achieve with it and how short a time you can get the results. Just practice, and when you get the techniques, you'll forget you ever said "I'm done detailing. Forget it" and do it more frequently.

Of course that washed off when I tried to wash it and instead of having a nice finish I had swirls galore. To make matters worse, almost no time to work on the car (extreme work hours) and extreme heat/humidity.

Re: I'm done detailing. Forget it.
Poor wash techniques can and will put in swirls and shorten the life of any paint protection (wax or sealant) dramatically. And combine that with using glazes to hide swirls (some work better than others), then you will get the real picture of the paint which is bad, especially if swirls are being added at the same time.
Now all you need are proper paint care steps to keep your car swirl free. It won't be easy, especially with dark paint especially black paint. Use quality products combined with proper techniques, and you'll have swirl free finish (well, mostly) for a long time.
For me, I'd still use glazes occassionally. There will be a point where you can't keep on correcting the paint every time the lightest or shallowest of swirls need to be compounded or cleaned. Instead, I'll use something to hide the swirls on a regular basis. Sometimes it would be OK to just hide them instead of removing them at every opportunity especially if there isn't enough time.

Re: I'm done detailing. Forget it.
Watching videos from the web will help you prepare for your Early spring 2013 detail. Paint corrections are impossible to do on a HOT Day. Product drys too fast. Always do paint corrections when the car surface is cool and follow up with Wax. 50 degree works best for me. May I suggest the Meguiar's Videos, and Meguiars YouTube Channel, Autogeek.net , Adam polishes video , and the JunkMan videos to help you get started.
A DA Polisher will get you awesome results and you will use less product. Took me 6yrs to figure this out :-)
