  • Question about pad & compound combos for etched water spots

Ok, so i have read a few articles and post about the types of water spots and stuff i can use to remove them, but i still have a few questions.
My friend asked me to detail his 2011 black Mercedes, which was sprayed by his sprinkler system. unfortunately he didn't wash it for two months and it was baked by sun.

First i did most of the car that was not spotted with swirl x using an orange lake county 6" pad on and a PC with the setting on 4, once i got to the spotted area, it barely seem to remove the spots. So i went over it again, but the spots were still there, then i tried Meg's UC, but did it by hand since i didn't have any more orange pads, it help a little bit (went over it twice) but under the light it was still pretty bad.

Finally i decided to use M105 however i only had a white from lake county to use, when i used that it seemed to make quite a difference however there were still many tough spots left.

My question is in a case like that should have tried a more aggressive pad with UC, or maybe a more aggressive pad with 105? or was it possible i could have just used bad technique?

Also does M105 normally dry very quick?, that was the first time i used it.

I can post a pic as well if anyone would like to see.
sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help

Re: Question about pad & compound combos for etched water spots

On one note, going to a stronger product on a used pad wouldnt really hurt, (it may make the strong product milder if anything), other than that cleaner pads can work better.

As far as your questions, it is pretty much yes to all of them.

You may want to try UC (a little milder than #105, but wont dry as fast) with the orange pad. You would also want to be sure to slow your arm speed, and work a foot or so square with some pressure.

Its also possible they are really deep, and may not be easily fixable...

Ok thanks, yeah i was really worried about using different products on the same pad, but that is good to know in case i get into that situation again. After washing the car again i put color X on the car and told my friend i would try to remove all the spots next month when he wants me to wash it again.

Yeah... The car wont explode if you have some SwirlX on a pad, and need to put UC on it. The UC may just not be as effective.
