  • Problem trying to restore carbon fiber hood

My carbon fiber hood has had a cloudy appearance for a while so I searched the internet looking for a way to fix it. I was impressed with the results I found on Meguiars, I decided to try using the steps I saw on another thread http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...!-October-21st!

    • Wipe down with Quick Detailer to remove loose dust
    • Clay with our Smooth Surface Clay Kit to remove above surface bonded contaminants
    • Clean using M80 Speed Glaze with a W-8006 foam polishing pad on the G100 using the 5.0 setting.
    • Protect using NXT Tech Wax with a W-9006 finishing pad on the 3.0 setting.
    • Remove dried wax using our microfiber bonnet over a clean, dry W-7006 foam cutting pad on the 5.0 setting.

I followed these steps in general except I used a porter cable 7346sp with the included foam pad. I also waxed by hand.

My first time using the polisher didn't do much, I decided I wasn't really using any pressure and maybe I wasn't going slow enough. I went over it again using much more pressure and moving the polisher very slowly. I'm not sure I was successful in removing any of the oxidation, and there are now streaks and a sprinkled look over the vehicle, which on closer inspection I believe are tiny scratches in the clearcoat.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

The foam pad that comes with that polisher is junk. Throw it out and invest in some decent quality foam pads. You should also try SwirlX or Ultimate Compound once you obtain some good pads.
