Besides ScratchX, what other Meguiar's products contain diminishing abrasives?
Re: Besides ScratchX, what other Meguiar's products contain diminishing abrasives?
Well, to answer the first part of your question, the paint cleaners that have abrasives:
Diminishing Abrasives: ScratchX, #2, #4, #9, #80, #83, I think would be the main ones...
Super Micro Abrasives: Ult. Polish, SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, Ult. Compound, #105, #205.. Something like that.
As far as what you want to do, it sounds like you may need a little clarification. Paint cleaners and waxes are quite different. Some products combine both, but you tend to lose a bit of the cleaning ability with the wax being in there.
The paint cleaners will remove dirt from the pores/imperfections of the paint, and if strong enough (and applied correctly), remove swirls, scratches, etc.
Waxes will leave behind a sacrificial barrier against the elements, that you would re-apply every few months or so.
So I think you will be looking for a paint cleaner. What kind of car/color is it? How bad are the swirls? Working by hand or machine?
Re: Besides ScratchX, what other Meguiar's products contain diminishing abrasives?
I have a white diamond pearl paint. it's been meticulously kept. the only thing is, due to its age, i do tend to see very fine swirl marks and/or scratches. but to the naked eye, even looking up close, you cant really see them. call me anal because i think im the only one who notices them.
here are some recent pics I took when i clayed and waxed the car. this should give an approximate condition of my paint.
in these pics, it almost looks black:
so technically i just need something to lightly recondition the paint, maybe remove a few stains, but thats it. i do wax the car religiously (at least 2x a month) if that helps. i will be doing everything by hand.

Swirls would probably show up better in direct sun photos, but thats ok.
What kind of stains are they? Like rust, or just dirt?
Working by hand, tends to be a little milder... you may find that Ult. Compound is the easiest way to go, even though it is a strong product. You would be able to apply it a bit more mildly, rather than with a lot of force, to make the product milder. You would want to use a smooth foam applicator.
I think removing things by hand with Ult. Polish or SwirlX may be a bit tiresome. But of course do a test spot and check your work first, dont go do the whole car then look at it.
On a side note, one way to cause swirls is to touch the paint more than needed. You can do what you enjoy of course, but it sounds like you wash the car once a week or so. It may be a bit gentler (and faster) if you used a spray wax after washing, while you dried the car. Then you may be able to go a little longer between the actual coats of wax, and the Ult. Quick Wax and the Gold Class Spray Wax both look very nice.

How do you actually use UQW? Do you dry the car then spray it down or spray it when its still wet? If you spray when wet why is that?
