  • Leather Stain/Problem....what to do?

Hey guys, I got a bit of a problem on my hands. About a week ago I was cleaning the interior with apc+ and while holding the bottle over the leather a little dripped on the passenger seat and after like 10 secs I realized and wiped it off. However it left a “stain” on there that is real different from the surrounding area. I tried using megs leather cleaner (aloe version) then even tried to spray some more apc+ and agitate it with a brush, I even let some leather conditioner soak in for like a minute and nothing seems to fix it. Any suggestions?

Looks like the spots been rubbed raw. Is the top layer of texture is gone?

That is more than just a stain. Much of the leather topcoat is missing. Notice the lack of grain in the image. The normal grain pattern you see in protected leather is not the leather's real grain but it is painted on as is the uniform color. I'd suggest that the APC and the rubbing have eroded the topcoat. There is no OTC product that will remove that blemish as the topcoat has been damaged. Repair will require a few specialized restoration products and some experience. If you have not done this before I'd suggest not taking this on yourself as you could easily make matters worse. You would need to re-dye, and respray a topcoat. You would also need a grain lifter as well. This spot would need to be cleaned, sanded and the color matched under proper lighting. This is a difficult, if not impossible, DIY project so I'd suggest a trip to a Leather Restoration specialist. Look in your yellow pages or ask at your dealership for a contact. This can be repaired to look as if it never happened.

May I ask what concentration of your APC+?

Andytsang, it was originally at 10:1 but like I mentioned some of it dripped from the bottle and after 10-13 secs I wiped it off and it looked like that.

Rst08tierney, not sure it doesn’t feel that much different from the surrounding leather.

Jfelbab, unfortunately I think you are right. I haven’t had time to check out some places to see what they would charge to fix it but I think this is my only option.
          Thanks for the help guys.
