  • Dirt / Dust repellant?

I've been looking for somthing that will help repell dust, and light dirt. I have a very dusty driveway...Pretty much after the car dries, after I wash it...It get's dusty...I find this very fustrating...Also when it rains, the mud splashes up and sticks...I'm hoping there is somthing that will help keep the dust, and dirt at bay. I have used a couple different types of Meguiar's Wax, which dosen't seem to repel anything...I really hate to have to wash the car EVERY time it rains...

I don't think there's any product that will repel dust. Waxes will make it harder for the dirt/dust to bond to the finish and make it easier to clean. But nothing can stop it from landing on your paint. I wish there's a product like this because our cars will stay clean forever.

      Re: Dirt / Dust repellant?

I have heard that some Quick Detailer sprays are 'anti-static' and therefore at least don't attract dust. I've used Zaino Z6 & Z8 in the past and found them to be better than some other QDs that I've tried.

I haven't tried any of Meguiars newer QD products, so I can't comment on them, but I'd imagine that they do have some anti-static properties as well.

Have you tried using QD immediately after drying your car? They're not just for touch ups between washing, and in fact I'd try to steer clear of wiping the paintwork with anything if I'm not actually washing the car, for fear of introducing swirls.

One thing that you could try is a California duster each day before you drive the car. I know that some people have said that these scratch the paint work, but I've not found that to be the case myself. You only need to lightly move the fibers over the paint, and don't even allow the weight of the handle & head to push the fibers down. Now that I have a black car, and I'm trying to get rid of the swirls, I might stop using this, and just wash my car more often. I have heard of a lamb or sheep skin brush that is designed to pick up dust by static-attraction; you might want to give that a go as it's probably more delicate.

I have to say that I do feel for you, since moving to the US I've had a double garage to park my two cars in and I absolutely LOVE it!

[I'm sorry to mention other products on the Meguiars forums, it's just that's what I've used; I hope that's not a violation of forum rules!]
