  • Dirt ontop of wax

Hi guys. I detailed my car about 4-5 months ago ( ultimate compound, polish, 2 layers of wax) and now after I did a thorough wash I run my hand over the paint and it's smooth but every so 5 cms there is contaminates on the surface. I am happy with the paint and don't need to ultimate compound it again, it's just how do I get the stuff on my wax off without starting all over? Every car was I did I used ultimate quik detailer.
Thanks guys I really appreciate you help keeping my car clean.

5 months is a very long time. You can move up to ultimate quik wax instead of UQD, you say your paint doesn't need ultimate compound which is good. You can just clay it, might as well do the entire car, reapply ultimate polish (if you really want to apply it, but you can skip it if you want) then re-wax the car.

Yep. Like the above poster said, just clay your car and rewax it. You can probably get away without polishing.

Yip, just clay it again and if your are happy with how it looks and feels just go straight to rewax.

Thank you so much guys. I'm on my way to get a clay bar kit and ill skip the polishing since its a white car and its already still glowing. Then about 2-3 layers of wax. Thanks again!!

3 layers may be too much, it won't harm the paint but the benefits if putting too much layers for protection and shine may be only minimal at best. You may be wasting product, 2 coats is the optimum, to ensure an even coat of wax.

If I start from scratch (from Clay), I would apply 2 layers of wax for the sole purpose of even coverage.

For other times, I wax every 3-4 weeks so one layer is suffice. My reasoning is it's highly unlikely that I would miss the same spot twice.

It really sounds like you're doing things right, gurvir44, and by that we mean you're inspecting the paint thoroughly after every wash. Swirls and other below surface defects accumulate over time, as do above surface bonded contaminants, which is what you're dealing with. We always recommend that after every wash you just quickly run your hand over the clean, dry paint and feel for these contaminants, and then visually inspect the clean surface under really good light to see if any below surface defects are starting to show up. If you notice just a minor mark here and there, or very few indications of above surface contaminants, then you know the "accumulation process" has begun and somewhere down the line you're going to reach a point where you deem in necessary to correct one or both of these issues. Whether that happens in a month or a year is up to you - how you maintain the finish, what the car is exposed to, and how critical you are about all this.
