  • Porter Cable question

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and I just bought myself a PC 7424XP. I wish I knew about this forum prior to me buying the PC as I find it to be uncomfortable to work with using the handle on the side. Does anyone know if the Mequire hoop handle will fit on the Porter Cable?
    Thanks for reading

    Re: Porter Cable question

Try using your PC 7424XP without the side handle.

I found the side handle that comes with the PC 7424XP (or any other type of DA) makes the DA awkward to maneuver.

I tried using it without the handle and it's still uncomfortable.

While our D-handle will work on the Porter Cable, it's not really a straight up fit. If I remember right, our bolts end up being too long and a washer or two is needed to allow full tightening of them to prevent the handle from wanting to rotate. Sourcing the handle, on the other hand, could be a bit tricky.

Just curious WA that your first time using a buffer? Because I know it takes a little bit of getting used to. Not with just the porter cable but any rotary / orbital machine

            Re: Porter Cable question

I used to use both the side handle (Meguiars 100) and the D handle (Meguiars 110v2), but like many folks here, I now prefer just to do without the handles and instead guide the DA by the motor casing (head). Give it a try. It gives you a lot more control than by using the handles and makes it easier and more precise to maneuver into tight spaces like under the door handles.

I don't use the side handle so much for operating the buffer, but rather to balance it when I set it down. Keeps the pad off the table or floor when I set it down and resting on the handle.

                Re: Porter Cable question

The PC is a bit heavy for me w/o the handle. As other observed, it is awkward to maneuver with the handle. It is kind of catch-22 for me. I guess I need to go to gym to pump up my arm first.

I don't use the handle on mine it feels better just placing my hand over the head and guide it along I think most people likes that way better

I didn't think anyone used the handle on DA's! lol

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

What size pads are you using? The largest pad I would use is 5.5". When I first got my PC I was using 6.5" pads then switched to 5.5", world of difference. And I don't use the handle either. I did put a bolt in on each side where the handle would go to keep the cover from vibrating.

Same here. I don't use a handle on my DAs or rotary buffers. I just feel like I have better control and can more accurately alter the pressure used as I can feel it better. You mileage may vary, but no handle is definitely my personal preference. Note "personal" preference there - I'm saying this from my own perspective, not an official Meguiar's viewpoint, just to be clear.
