  • 2012 Honda Fit Crystal Black Pearl; AIO choices

Just wanted some opinions. I am doing a 2012 Honda Fit Crystal Black Pearl on Saturday and most of my reading suggest Honda has a soft paint. This car is an outside DD and has never been sealed or waxed. Paint is so so with some swirls and bird stains. Saturday is going to be 95 so i am starting early and don't have much time before the sun shuts me down. So my question is after decon. wash and clay which AIO and pad would you go with for this car?

    Here are my choices:

Megs Cleaner wax then topped with 845
D151 then topped with 845 or DG 105
    DG 601/501/105 Combo

    Pads:
    Megs MF cutting
    Megs MF finishing
    LC White Polishing

I am leaning towards D151 on a Megs finishing disc or white LC pad topped with 845 or DG 105. Reading suggest Honda paint corrects with a good AIO and finishing and polishing pad.

    Thanx

I would think you would have good luck with D151, but isn't this what tests spots are for?

Yes, you are correct. I am trying to get a game plan together bc I don't want to spend too long testing different pads and products due to the heat and threat of t-storms. So I figures maybe someone did a new black Honda recently and had some suggestions to
cut down on the guess work.

I would suggest D151 with the LC white polishing pad. The crystal black pearl is pretty soft and I'm not sure if the MF discs will cause additional marring. Best to do a test spot and see what route is the best.

If you have a Walmart/Autozone that carries M205, I would highly recommend using that with the LC white polishing pad.

I did a honda recently with Ultimate Polish and a W8007 pad. It had minor swirls and this combo was more than enough to remove them and leave a LSP ready finish.

Thanx, I have 205, Menzerna and Optimum polishes. I am going to try the D151 on LC polishing pad to start and have 205 ready if not happy with results. I was trying to keep the price and time down but I may have to do a 5 step instead of a 4.

Great that was exactly what I was looking for, will have 205 handy if D151 can't tackle the job.

I love what D151 can do as an AIO. D151 and a polishing pad can take care of most imperfections while putting down a decent coat of wax.

All the Honda Fits we've worked on have had very, very soft paint. Of course, it should be noted that none of them were 2012 models so things could definitely have changed. But with the ones we've worked on, D151, M66 and sometimes even just M06 were enough to clean them up beautifully. We would at least start quite gentle on one of these for a test spot, but our gut feeling is the DAMF is going to be way more aggressive than you need here. Unless, of course, the paint is now very different (could happen) and the defects are fairly severe.

Thanx Mike I am going to tread lightly with the pad, speed and D151.

Speed 4 and a polishing pad should do the trick.

Went with D151 and white LC ccs pad then topped with DG 105.

Came out nice. Had to hit the roof with 205 for swirls.

Ran into a problem once the sun hit my house. Paint was getting too hot and products were drying up very fast. Had to speed it up. Customer was happy. I need to get a tent bc the Shelby occupies the garage spot. I got sun burn too. Took 3 hours.

Why wouldnt you put the Shelby outside so you could use the garage?

Started at 0630, normally would have moved it but car is so loud it would have woken up the family and neighbors .

Got it. Was just wondering why you wouldnt move it so you could use the garage and not get sunburned.
