  • Looking for a wax

    Hi everyone,

With all the new produces now, which wax is the easiest to put on and take off? I perfer a paste but liquid is fine. I'm sure all waxes would last 3 months correct?

    Re: Looking for a wax

All Meguiar's paste waxes including Ultimate Past Wax, NXT 2.0 Paste, Gold Class Paste and Cleaner Wax Paste are very easy to use SO LONG as you apply the wax thinly. If you apply these waxes, or any wax for that matter thickly then you'll have a hell of a time removing that layer of wax. In addition, applying a thicker coat of wax doesn't give you any additional benefit.

How long a wax lasts is not a set length of time. It depends on various factors such as environment, temperature, maintenance and surface prep. Waxes will degrade a lot faster in AZ compared to somewhere in northern CA because of the temperature if everything else is held constant. Waxes will last longer if you wash your car regularly with proper car wash soaps compared to some guy who doesn't wash his car regularly or uses dish soap.

Here's a good thread that shows you how thinly you should apply a wax and how many oz's is required to cover the entire car: How to apply a very thin coat of wax with a G110v2

You might say how is that thread going to benefit you since you want to use paste waxes. I know this is done using liquid waxes and using a buffer but the same principle applies if you're using paste waxes and applying it by hand.

    Hope this helps.

Isn't there #26 in paste form? Can you tell me difference between waxes?

        Re: Looking for a wax

Yes there is M26 Paste Wax. I'm sorry I left that out.

Ultimate Wax and NXT 2.0 are both synthetic waxes. They use man made polymers and these products will last longer than their typical carnauba counterparts. Ultimate Wax will last longer than NXT 2.0.

Gold Class Carnauba Plus is mostly carnauba but with some synthetic elements blended in (I think).

M26 purely carnauba with no synthetic elements present.

All of the above are called finishing waxes/sealants. That means it doesn't offer any type of cleaning abilities (removal of very light/fine scratches and oxidation).

Cleaner Wax and ColorX are what you call cleaner waxes/sealants. They offer a very light cleaning ability while you're waxing your car.

            You're very welcome.

I mentioned Ultimate Wax in my posts.

M21 is the professional version of NXT 2.0. So you can think of them as very similar products, if not the same products. M21 can be applied via rotary.

ok, seem like Ultimate Wax is latest and greatest. I read some of your post regarding UW as a wipe on, wipe off application and the swipe test does not apply. Is this true?

                Re: Looking for a wax

Ultimate Wax is the latest and greatest. It will last the longest out of all waxes Meguiar's offers.

You can apply it either way. You can wait for the wax to cure by doing the swipe test and remove it after. Or you can apply it to a panel and remove it right away. This is for the liquid version. I think you still need to let it dry with the paste version. I may be wrong on that though.

                  Re: Looking for a wax

Yeah, Ult. Wax is latest and greatest. But if you are used to all the regular "older" waxes and how to use them, are arent interested in messing with new techniques, you probably would want to avoid it, or at least the liquid version.

But the Ult. Quick Wax is great for after future washes.

                    Re: Looking for a wax

When I first use UW (liquid), I waxed the same way as NXT. What a mistake. The wax was extremely hard to remove and there were streaks everywhere.

Now I would do a panel a time; ie: after I wax the 2nd panel, I would remove the wax of the 1st panel.

Since my car is silver and well maintained, all Meguiars waxes look great on my car. Like many of us in this forum, I wax often (maybe too much, once every 3 weeks or so) so longevity is not important to me. How easy to wax is important and now that I know how to use UW, it has become my favorite wax.

If you experience any streaking with ULW, just spritz a light mist of water and that should remove it.
