  • Ultimate Streaking

    Hi guys -

Hoping for a little help on this. Over the past couple of months I've switched almost entirely to the ultimate line and have since noticed consistent dark streaks in my paint. They seem to appear with every step really..after washing, detailing, whatever. I've read on a couple other sites that others have had common issues, particularly with dark paint like mine. In particular, i've noticed the streaking happening after using Ultimate quik detailer, ultimate wash & wax, and ultimate wash and wax anywhere. I have a daily driver, but always do my detailing in the shade and on a cool surface. It doesn't seem to have occured before switching to the ultimate line.

It's extremely frustrating not understanding what's going on, and I've been consdering just switching back to an older line.

    Any ideas would be great

    -Mike

Maybe use 2 separate MF cloths....one to wipe on & off any dirt, the 2nd one to buff dry? I used all 3 items you mentioned, no issues.

      Hey Strife-

Thanks for replying. I have a 2000 silverado so we're talking alot of paint lol. I keep a big pack of clean microfibers with me at all times, and use a bare minimum of 4 no matter what I'm doing.

Hmmm, did you wash these MF cloths before using?
Make sure you don't use any soap with softeners or scents.
        Hopefully someone else chimes in...

The MF cloths I used were either brand new or have been washed maybe once or twice. Haven't had them all that long. All I do with my MF cloths is run them through the washing machine with no soap. Not sure if that's the best practice or not to be honest, but they feel and look pretty clean to me afterwards.

            A little soap could help.

I'll give it a try next time I wash my towels, which should be soon. It doesn't 'feel' like it's from the towels if you get me, but I'm down for trying anything. If it doesn't work I'm wondering about resorting to more drastic measures? Like maybe just buying all new MFs(i've only got two or three meguiars, including that deceiving black one!) and even doing a wash with Dawn soap. I HATE the idea of doing that latter one, but I've read that doing it every once in a great while in cases like mine is a decent solution and shouldn't harm the surface.

Really I just want to ensure that if I strip the surface and start over, that I won't end up back in the same place once i start using ultimate products again. Since I'm really not sure what's causing this.

Well, if your towels had some wax on them still, and you were smearing old wax around, that could be what you are seeing.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, you may be right. I'll give the soap a shot.

I had the same issue with UQD. The streaking plus broken nozzle handles on the second use, three bottles in a row and I now use Meg's Gold Class High Gloss Detailer or Duragloss FC&S Detail Spray. Ensure your MF towels are washed prior to use.

                      Re: Ultimate Streaking

I've always head great results with regular megs QD, may just go back to that. I've never seen Meg's Gold Class High Gloss Detailer in any stores before. Were I to see it I would definitely give it a whirl though.

Waiting for it to stop raining every single day down here in Louisiana, then I'm going to try again with nothing but brand new MF towels for awhile and see if that makes any difference.

If you didn't use soap...that's the result...... you'll get streaks.

Thought I had read a couple of people on here recommending washing your microfibers with just water. But I guess i'll be switching to soap!

Some will say to use liquid laundry soap vs. powder but I have always used powder and never had a problem. I always do a double rinse to be sure all traces of soap are gone. You can add a little white vinegar to the rinse cycle and it will act as a softener without leaving any residue. You can always wash on the gentle cycle if you are concerned about wearing your MF's out too fast. NO dryer sheets! Hope everyones advice helps.
