  • Megs 3" backing plate failed

Hi anyone know why my Meguiars 3" backing plate failed? The mounting threads/hole decided to round itself out today.

I've only used it about 5-6 times to do my bumper and hard to reach areas.

Is this a known problem? Anyone recommend a different brand or possible fix?

I had the same thing happen to me with a buff and shine plate.

Next time make double sure that you have it snugged down.

I had this same issue as well. I got another one no charge from detailing.com. if I remember correctly, when I got the new one, I tightened the bolt into the backing plate with a socket wrench. I made it as tight as I could get it. Then I screwed it onto the D/A. I haven't had any issues since nor have I had to retighten the screw into the backing plate.

This is the correct way to mount the backing plate to avoid any issues.
