  • gnarly bird droppings stain

so last week a bird took a gnarly dump on my car, almost the size of my palm, and i didnt clean it off until the end of the week. so it was sitting in the sun and stuff for atleast 4-5 days before i washed the car. i used the gold class wash and wax, and it didnt come off, so i figured i'd just use some clay after. it took some of it off but not all of it. so i figure i'd use my porter cable, white pad, and ultimate polish to start off light. and nothing. didnt even budge it. so i upped my game, and tossed on an orange lake country flat pad and used UC. it cleaned most of it off for the most part, but it didnt all come off. its as if its melted into the paint at this point. i then upped my game even more, and tossed on a yellow pad and used chemical guys strongest stuff the medium-heavy swirl remover, and its almost gone, but at the certain angle you can still see it

what do you guys think?! this is 4-6 each. taped off. i ended up just doing UP, UC, and collonite 845 for the rest of the hood since i already started the process hahah

Bird droppings have oils and acids in it that etch paint rapidly when exposed to UV radiation. It isn't too uncommon for it to go through the clear and etch the bast coat of paint as well.
Bird droppings should be cleaned off the day that they are discovered, ideally, the very hour.

Bird droppings can wreak havoc on car paint. I once had my car parked under a large tree. Later that day, there were hundreds of birds in the tree, at least 200 and they were all chirping wildly as a storm was approaching. I looked at my car after the storm, and there was not one area that had 4 inches in any direction before touching another bird dropping. The car had around 100 bird droppings on it. I still have some etchings on my clear coat from that day.

This is a job for a rotary and a wool pad. Seek a professional if you never used the tool. Depending on the color of your paint, it may need a quick wet sand too if the rotary can't knock it down.

        Do you have any pictures?

It really depends on how deep its etched into your paint. This is what i've done on my cars before when regular polishing didn't work :

-Lightly Sand the spot with 3000 grit sand paper
-polish with M105 and a lake country yellow cutting pad using a porter cable DA

Then I check too see if the etching is gone, if not , i try one more time. I don't do this method more than twice as i don't own a paint depth gage.

Give it a shot, It won't hurt to try.
If i was you, I would take my car to a local pro detailing shop or Meguiars HQ and ask them if they can do a spot correction on the etching. Much safer than sanding without experience.

definately dont trust myself sanding to be honest. ill try giving them a call and calling for mike or someone down at the HQ and see if they can do a quick spot correction. its like 6 inches wide. luckily it wasnt the purple splatter. i didnt even think of the harm bird poop could do. definately learned my lesson this time thats for sure

Yea I also found out the hard way. I always clean the bird droppings off my car as soon as I see them now , the sooner the better. Well good luck with your problem !

Bring the car down to our next Thursday Night Open Garage session, June 28th, and we'll be happy to take a look at it for you - sign up here. But jeez, don't let that stuff sit on the paint for so long next time!!!!

This is why I always have UQW, UQD and a bottle of water in the trunk.
