  • Can I use the MIcrofiber kit or Not???

I have a question regarding this Microfiber Correction Kit???? I have read a ton of great things about it and really want to purchase it, but I have also read its only meant for factory oem paint..... I have a 97 4runner that is in good shape but hasn't been polished and waxed for a very long time. I keep it clean so the paint is in good shape but has many swirls and little imperfections that need to come out. My question is this: 4 years ago my 4runner was in an accident and had the entire right side of the vehicle repaired and repainted and blended the paint perfectly with the existing oem paint. I am worried that I shouldn't use this kit on my car since all of it is not factory oem. IF THIS IS TRUE, what do you recommend I use to give me like results as the kit???? I am using a Porter Cable DA polisher to apply. Please contact me ASAP as I am eager to get started. Thanks, new to the forum...

Re: Can I use the MIcrofiber kit or Not???

Let me start off with the proper Welcome to MOL!!!

Well the MF Correction kit is considered an aggressive method meaning it provides a lot of cut in removing heavy oxidation and defects along with swirls and other mild defects. Its always been stated that try the least aggressive method on a test spot and see what results you get and then move from there. Now with that in mind if your car is not in too bad of shape other than swirls have you tired anything else like M80 or M83 with a polishing pad or even UC with a polishing pad? These products yield great results with the right technique. As far as the OEM factory paint I think they say that for reason of a body shop. Some of the Mirror Glaze line is body shop safe meaning it can be applied to a newly painted body and not do any harm.

You do want to do the 5 Step Paint care system which is:
    5-Step paint care:

    1. Wash/ Clay (if needed, if bonded contaminants present on paint surface)
    2. Cleaning
    3. Polishing (optional step)
    4. Protection/ Waxing
    5. Maintain - keep your paint surface in good shape by using quick detailer and spray wax.

If you want take some picture of you 4runner and post them so we can help you maybe decide whats the best option. I don't want push you away from the MF system just want to help you do things the right way and maybe the MF system is they way you may have to go!

We couldn't have said it much better than thoryamaha919 did, other than skipping the reference to M80/M83. We would highly recommend going with Ultimate Compound and a polishing pad to start.

As mentioned, the DAMF System is quite aggressive and can pull out some pretty serious defects. If your paint is in the sort of condition you describe it's doubtful you really need this level of aggression, so why use it?

Hmmm, since i splurged on getting a new G110v2 and the 5" DAMF kit.....i will likely only need to use the finishing pad on my vehicles....I'll save the cutting pads for when my friends come calling to detail their old jalopies

Re: Can I use the MIcrofiber kit or Not???

Thanks for the advice....I will try to posts some pics but not able to today. Some other info, its recommended I do the Ultimate Compound??? I do have a bottle of the Megs Swirl Remover 2.0 at my place which is brand new. Could I use that or should I go with UC?? Also, since I am new which set of pads should I be using for each application? I am assumming foam pads. I would really like to simplify it all and use the MF kit so will it really be a bad idea. I just love this kit. Maybe some pics would give a better idea and since my car has been repainted, they did a really good job and looks and feels exactly like the factory paint....more info please, thanks

Well for any defect or swirl removal the Yellow polishing pad W8207 are recommended. http://www.meguiars.com/en/professio...polishing-pad/

The for polish and wax applications you can you the black soft pads W9207 for that. http://www.meguiars.com/en/professio...finishing-pad/

Pictures would help to see what you are dealing with, although we can only do so much as we are just looking at the picture and not there in person.

You can try the M09 and see what you get with a test spot and check to see if you are removing all the defects if not try UC as that seems like it should do the trick. After that you will was to follow UC with UP or any pure polish such as M07 then followed by your favorite wax.

If you live in oc (orange county?), you should try to get to Meguair's Thursday or Saturday class with your 4runner. Take a look at my 96 4runner with the mf system. Click on my user name and go to other forum posts.
