  • First combo choose

    Okay, so after reading a lot of topics here. I eventually decided to start with my car and then do 3 more of my neighbors
    .The last question I have it what kind of polishing compound:

    Will use rotary buffer that I found in garage with Meguiar's Self-Centering Rotary 5" Backing Plate and 2 polishing pads and 1 finishing pad 6.5". I know that it's better to use DA. But sorry have no extra money right now, so should do with what I have. So there is my suggestion:

    1.105->205->LSP
    2.80->83->7->LSP ( as this compound are diminishing abrasive as I understood it would be a bitter harder in use, to know when it's done)
    3.UC ( not sure if I can use it with rotarry) ->205;
    4.83->205 ( this variant as not so much aggresive as compare to first)

    I feel that it better to go with 1st variant. But not sure.

    Re: First combo choose

    What year, color and condition is the car you're working on? How bad are the defects you're wanting to remove?

    Rotary is fine to use but you just have to be very careful when using it. If you're not paying attention, you can easily burn through the paint. I wouldn't necessarily say that the D/A is better to use. It's just SAFER to use.

    1. M105 -> M205 -> LSP. (M105 is very aggressive so keep that in mind).
    2. M83 -> M80 -> LSP. M83 is more aggressive than M80 so I would use M83 first. M80 is very rich in polishing oils so I find using M7 after M80 a little redundant.
    3. UC is not recommended for use with a rotary.

    I would pick combo #1 if your defects are very severe. If not, you can just try out M205 -> LSP. M205 paired with a polishing pad and a rotary can do wonders as a 1 step system. If you have a single stage paint system then I would go with combo #2.

      Re: First combo choose

      Thank you Marc and sorry, I didn't tell the conditions first of all. Trying to make pictures and explain the situation.
      As I got a car I realized that it never was polished. And I neglected this fact may be for future. And the car was under tree for winter and spring with may be 10 times I used it. So now I decided to maintain it and sell it, worked on engine fixed it, but realized if i will not make something with paint condition it would be a shame for me.

      So that's what I have : Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2000. And yes before I going use rotary I have 3 days while the products would be shipped to me. So I will study about it 99% and hope to get success . And yes, I hope that 90% of defects I can fix with 205 and than start with 105 ( but I wondered may be I could try 83). Anyway here is the pictures ( before start work on it) and I know that it's a lot of work. But will do.

      All pictures are clickable to see full size and estimated the defects

      P.S. Already bough M GC, M WM towel, M wash mit, M grit guards, M surface clay kit, M super shine towel, 2x M foam applicator, not decided with wax, I think would by NXT 2.0 Liquid. So hope to become Meguiar's lover

        Re: First combo choose

        Given the condition and the story behind the car, I'd go with the M105 -> M205 combo.
