Does applying a second coat of Ultimate Wax a day or two after the first application improve the shine or durability of the wax or does it just help insure that there aren't any spots missed?

Sorry if this question has been answered as I looked for a while before posting.

    Thank you for your help.

I think that a second coat is more to ensure even coverage and getting every spot covered as opposed to durability. Still, I believe that a second coat will give you a slight edge in durability over just a single coat.

A 2nd coat ensures even coverage, it can also help a bit in durability but not much I still think it's worth the extra time to apply a 2nd coat.

As everyone has said...more to insure a more complete coverage.

One thing you can do is to use Ult Quick Wax after washing, that does help keep the 'pop' in the shine.

UW is supposed to be applied very thin. It's very easy to miss a spot.

Many of us wax our cars often so it is OK to miss spots. I usually wax twice only when I am doing the full 5-step ritual, twice a year, before and after the winter.

Yep, helps ensure you didn't miss any spots the first time. I think you may wind up geting a little extra durability, but that's debatable. Most of the experts seem to think that the second coat doesn't really sit on top of the first one like you may think. Still usually a good practice to put on two very thin coats.
