  • When to Wax New Car 2012

I just bought 2012 Hyundai Sonata, Pacific Blue Pearl. My question is when should I first wax it? I have heard several opinions, right away, wait several months, etc.. Also I plan on using Ultimate liquid wax. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Go ahead and wax right away. Factory paints are curred from the factory.

Before waxing, you may want to clay if the paint feels rough.

Agreed, you can wax it now. I'm sure it probably sat on the lot for some time. Detailing a new car is a great way to get your feel for it, as well as keeping it gleaming.

Re: When to Wax New Car 2012

        Gator John,

As Nick suggested, clay the car. I would strongly suggest claying the car. New cars may have sat at the factory for awhile, traveled on a train car, ridden on a transport truck and the sat in the dealer's lot. All of those activities may cause bonded contaminates on the paint. A good washing followed by claying will provide a smooth surface upon which to create a highly reflective surface upon which to wax. Ultimate Wax is Meguiar's longest lasting wax. Please note it is a sealant and is put down and wiped off slightly differently than say a carnauba wax like Gold Class. To insure adequate coverage, two coats of wax is recommended. However, Ultimate Wax needs to cure before the second coat. This cure time is 6-12 hours.

Do a search on Ultimate Wax and read the many suggestions to apply Ultimate Wax, but wash and clay first to obtain the best results. Good luck and enjoy your new car. Oh by the way, welcome to Meguiar's.

          cool.

Congratulations..on your new car purchase you can wax immediately. The paint is bake in at the factory. At most i would wash, clay polish and wax car.

Heck your car may look newer then when it left the lot.

Yep, go ahead and give it a wash, clay, light polish, and wax. Almost all cars leave the dealer not looking 100%.

Go ahead, wax it if you want. Clay if needed, it will make waxing easier and allow the wax to bond better to the paint. Maintain regularly with ultimate quik detailer and ultimate quik wax, wash regularly with a good car wash (Gold Class or ultimate wash and wax). If your paint has swirls (some do even right from the showroom/lot), you can use ultimate polish to remove any swirls and add even more depth and shine before applying the ultimate wax.

Note that you don't have to have swirls to use Ultimate Polish. You can apply it and work it in lightly to get the color deeper and glossier before waxing.
