  • Fiberglas boat non-skid surface Q

I posted this Q in the wrong forum before. What is the proper and SAFE way to treat and preserve these surfaces. I can get them clean but waxing on top of non-skid is dangerous. It there a specific M product made to nourish these special gel coat areas and not make them slippery?

I think the only item that Maguiar's offers is their "Non-Skid Deck Cleaner" - M-68.

Just for saying, I have never found a product that won't make the deck slippy. My recommendation (for what that's worth) is just keep those areas clean and forget any sort of coating.

Take a look at West Marine...there MAY be something out there.

    Hope that helps some...

It depends on what type of non-skid you have. The diamond pattern style comes pretty clean with non skid deck cleaner and a pressure washer. I have actually waxed non-skid areas before, as long as they are not too worn down. Never noticed any problems getting around on deck afterwards (J-24 used in racing, so lots of running around going on) I'm currently trying to clean the non-skid on a boat I race on where the rest of the boat has been re-sprayed, and the contrasting non-skid now looks really bad. One of the best fiberglass shops here in Vancouver suggested using diluted muriatic acid, and it works great, just make sure to have a respirator and hopefully a fresh breeze around. The other product I've found that works well is FSR, the blue jelly like stuff.
