  • UC v 105 v Microfiber System

    Hello fellow forum users,

This is my first post here. So, first things first and a big hello to everyone.

I would like to try and establish the aggressiveness of particular Meguiars compounds / pad combos. I would like the answers to be relative to each other please.

As this is a hypothetical test, we can say that the combos that I will list will all be used on the same machine, in the same conditions and on the same vehicle.

The machine to be used: Meguiars G220 v2 (Dual Action)

Combo 1: Meguiars Ultimate Compound / Meguiars SoftBuff 2.0 Foam Cutting Pad W7207
    Combo 2: Meguiars #105 / Meguiars SoftBuff 2.0 Foam Cutting Pad W7207
Combo 3: Meguiars Microfiber DA System (Meguiars Microfiber Compound / Meguiars Microfiber Cutting 5.5" DA Pad)

As I stated above, I would like the answers to relevant to each other so that I will know how each combo compares to each of the other combos.

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

First on the list is welcome.
I will leave answers to your questions to the pros. I believe that combo 1 is the least aggressive.
I would like to say that not all paints need the most aggressive process ( less is more ) and a test area is a good thing ( 2' x 2' ) area.

If I'm not mistake I would say the Microfiber system is the most aggressive followed by M105 with the foam cutting pad then the ultimate compound with the cutting pad.
I may caution it has always been stated go with your least aggressive and a test spot then proceed from there if need be. Also, the cutting pads are suppose to be for a rotary buffer but can be used with a DA though hazing and marring of the paint can happen when using those pads.
My question is what are you trying to accomplish? what are you woking on?

        Re: UC v 105 v Microfiber System

        Hi,

        Thank you for the answers.

Initially, the question that I have asked is nothing much more than to satisfy my own curiosity. I'm just interested in how different products stack up against each other.

At some point in the very near future I intend to tackle my newly acquired 11 year old BMW 330Ci Sport. Whoever has owned my car in the past has not looked after the exterior very well. The paintwork looks like the result of the vehicle being put through a car wash every week or so with absolutely no other treatment whatsoever. The result being a lot of swirls and a lot of minor scratches.

So, back to my original question and the answers supplied so far, do we reckon that this should be the correct order then? (Going from the most aggressive to the least aggressive)

Meguiars Microfiber DA System (Meguiars Microfiber Compound / Meguiars Microfiber Cutting 5.5" DA Pad)
Meguiars #105 / Meguiars SoftBuff 2.0 Foam Cutting Pad W7207
Meguiars Ultimate Compound / Meguiars SoftBuff 2.0 Foam Cutting Pad W7207

        Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, I wouldnt want to use the cutting pad with the DA polisher without trying some other things first. The cutting pad will tend to leave marring of its own.

            Welcome to MOL, Paul

Interestingly enough the list you provided would actually be the ranking in order from least aggressive to most aggressive:

Combo 3: Meguiars Microfiber DA System (Meguiars Microfiber Compound / Meguiars Microfiber Cutting 5.5" DA Pad)
One thing we really do need to point out, however, is that you should avoid using the W7207 foam cutting pad with a DA buffer; it is aggressive in a way that often hazes the paint when used with a DA. When that happens you sort of take two steps forward and one step back, meaning you then have to go over the vehicle again with a less aggressive combo (often the same liquid with a W8207 foam polishing pad) to remove the haze. You really are better off sticking with the W8207 pad and whatever liquid you select.

It should also be noted that the DMC5/D300 combo, when used on very soft paint, can also create a haze. If the paint is really delicate you may need to move to a foam pad and D301 to clean it up rather than the DMF5 microfiber pad. And quite often on those really delicate paints it's best to avoid the DAMF System all together and stick with foam pads.
