  • #80 and #81 - polishing ability...

I just used #80 for the first time to night... like the product but... I used #81 on one fender only and compared the the door that had only #80 and it seemed be deeper than the #80/#81.

Seemed strange but I thought I would skip the #81 and see how it turns out.

anyone else done the same combo (#80/#81) if so what have you noticed?

    gb,

You've just mentioned my two favorite Meguiar's polishes in one post!

Anyhow, as much of this is personal preference, go with the look you prefer. Personally, I really like the look of #81 after #80. Some of it could have to do with the color of your paint.

Keep in mind that the #80 and #81 are a bit different products. The #80 has some leveling abilities........ the #81 almost none.

#81 is by far my favorite polish... Having never used #80 before I am impressed.

I detailed an SUV last week with #80, and I liked the way it turned out.........So did the owner!

I can't say enough about the 80's series line of products...

I started with #7 and NXT. Then after reading about #81 on this forum I used #81 and NXT. The main benefit of switching was the #81 seemed a bit easier to use than the #7. I really liked using #7 and the extra effort to remove.

Later last year I added #80 to the process and topped with #81. Now that was an awesome combo. That really darkened up the paint. Top that with NXT and you're in real good shape.

I dropped #81 from my services since its really a product that should be applied more frequently than most people get vehicles detailed. I moved on to #80 (as needed in a service package not for every car) topped with NXT now #21. There is a slight difference not using #81 that the folks on the forum would notice. #81 really makes metal flake jump out!

I don't see a easy way to compare the two products though. Each one has a specific purpose. If you need a quick one step cleaner/polish to remove swirls, minor scratches, and clean the paint then #80 is the "go to" product.

If you want to take the appearance to the next level and keep it there the by regular applications then I go for the #81. Since my time is limited on my own cars (suvs) now I skip #81 and apply #80 as the wash marks creep up in count (maybe once or twice a year).

Just my $0.02 from my previous year of using these products. Hopefully this is in line with your topic.
