  • Meguiars Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86

Hello all, First of all I Love the UC/UP/ULW attack on cars. I'm getting great results And love what each step brings to the table. The only thing is the time. I know I probably won't get as good results taking the time to do each step. But anything that can help to be more efficient I can appreciate.

I was only dreaming at the time, but I was wondering if there was any product out there that could possibly combine the cutting and polishing steps. Bouncing around the forums I've heard about MG #9, and about Meguiars Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86. They sound awesome. Just don't know too much about them, And wondering if any of these could be applied and removed by hand? Could any of these meet my need?

I've got cleaner/wax already but I'm only looking for the Cut/polish portion. Cause I want to still top it with ULW. Thanks all, and have a good day!

The solo cut and polish is a Rotory only application. If you wanted the equivilant version for D/A and hand application you could try out D151. Of course D151 has wax in it but works much the same the solo system works as I have been told. D151 can be used by hand, D/A, and rotory while the Solo system is is just for the rotory. I picked some D151 and will try it out tommorrow on my commuter.

If you dont want an AIO stick with either UC or UP and use them prior to putting down your wax. Hope this helps.

Smack pretty well sums it up, but we'll add the following: Are you doing all three steps, UC/UP/UW, all the time? If so, why? You shouldn't have to use UC more than once a year as long as you're not inflicting a bunch of swirls in your paint through your washing/drying process. And if you are creating a bunch of swirls, we need to talk about your washing/drying process!

No, I've only done it twice on my car. The only reason I did it a second time was because I didn't know that Car washes with the big fabric twisters, swirl and scratch up yur car darn good. As for looking for a product that does both the compounding and polishing. The only reason that, That came up was because I was just burning time online looking at the professional line and noticed the #86 and was like WHOA whats this stuff. And ignorantly thought it could be used by hand.

Right now, I've changed from the car wash to spraying the car down at home with hose, using Deep Crystal Car wash, and a Microfiber mit. Like I said, I started the drying process the last several weeks using the waterblade with no(YET) scuff marks, then I would finish the drying with microfiber drying towels.

Well, I guess that wasn't all of it.

My thought process was, when I have a bunch of cars lined up, and say the car I'm on has some swirls, and fine scratches, and light oxcidation on it, is there a product out there that would shorten up the step process to get things done quiker. People have mentioned several products: #9, cleaner/wax, D151 and ColorX. I would be looking for something that has the cut in it to remove fine scratches, light swirls, and light oxidation, and polishing ability in it to.

Just what you guys suggest when yur backed up and got alot of cars to do. Otherwise I stick with UC/UP/ULW.

smack, thanks a mil for getting back to me again about the D151 and the included thread. The results on that guys car are awesome, and you mentioning looking for something stronger than the colorx was cool also. Because thats what I was looking for, a 1 step process with strong cleaning capabilities and a polish and with the wax in there all the better.

That is exactly what I wanted as well. A complete 1 step process (D151) and a complete 2 step process (mf system). Glad I could help.

Summerstorm, you're working exclusively by hand, right? And you're looking for a good AIO to use in order to save some time but by your own admission you're expecting a compromise of some sort by doing this. Well, working by hand you're still going to put in a ton of work to get a look approaching the vehicles Greg posted in the thread smack linked to. He did that with a buffer which not only goes faster (obviously) but can more easily achieve that deep gloss and very uniform appearance.

Sure, there will be times even working by hand where a good AIO will fit the need (condition of car, expectations of customer, price charged for the work, etc) but the level of compromise when doing all this by hand is likely going to be greater than when working with a buffer. We aren't saying this to discourage you but rather to manage your expectations.

Re: Meguiars Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86

I would really recommend a purchase of a dual action polisher in your case. It's going to make your detailing projects much faster and more effective. You'll master your technique very quickly without risk of paint damage.
You could also take full advantage of DA Microfiber Correction System for quick 2-step total makeover jobs (it's extremely productive) and you could easily extend it to high end detailing by adding additional steps after initial cut with D300 Correction Compound/ microfiber cutting disc.

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner so keep your eyes on special promotions. AutoGeek, Auto Detailing Solutions (ADS) or Amazon should have some sweet deals.
