  • Guide on Right choice of products

    Hello all,

I've to detail a 2006 Black Toyota Corolla (5 year old original factory paint) with heavy swirls and moderate scratches on it. Please suggest me how to go about it?

After using Ultimate Compound, how should i move a head? I own DA (Porter Cable 7424XP) with LC CCS pads (Orange, Coarse Green, White, Grey & Blue)

    1. UC
    2. SwirlX
    3. 205 or UP
    4. M07 or Deep Crystal polish or skip
    5. ULW

    Regards,

    Imran Hakro

You could skip 3 and 4 if you wanted to.

Or if you want to, use UP for step 3 and skip step 4.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

      Yeah,

      1.
      3.
      4. Optional
      5.

would be a good order to look at doing things.

Re: Guide on Right choice of products

Assuming you have all of the products you mentioned, we'd go with this:

          1. UC - YES
          2. SwirlX - SKIP IT
          3. 205 or UP - ONE OR THE OTHER, BUT WE'D GO WITH M205
          4. M07 or Deep Crystal polish or skip - SKIP IT
          5. ULW - YES

We would skip the SwirlX between UC and M205/UP because you'll get a better result (ie, more gloss and clarity) from M205/UP immediately following UC, which makes SwirlX redundant in this instance.

If forced to choose between M205 and UP we'd go with M205 for it's slightly higher cut level and ability to really refine the finish and add a lot of clarity.

When using M205/UP it's almost pointless to follow with a pure polish like M07/DC Polish unless you're prepping a very high level show car. Otherwise, what you gain with M205/UP isn't going to be appreciably enhanced with a pure polish.

Thanks Murr1525 and Thanks Michael for detailed description.
Just a little more clarification please. With which LC CCS pads (Orange, Coarse Green, White, Grey & Blue) should i be using M205?

            Thank you all...

Not familiar with those pads. Which ever one is the finishing pad should be used with UP/M205. Use a cutting pad with the UC.

Hmm, looks like my post had a formatting issue (or I did), but glad you figured it out.

I would prefer to use a polishing pad with the UC, at least until you determine otherwise with test spots, etc. The polishing pad should be enough in most cases.

Re: Guide on Right choice of products

Do a test spot with Ultimate Compound and the green pad first and see how that goes. If you need to step up to the orange do so only if you can't get results with the green.

With Ultimate Polish you should step down to the grey (LC actually calls this a black pad) or the blue. If you only have one of each, use the black for UP and the blue for your wax.
