  • RainX or Similar Product

Is there anything better then RainX? Or RainX it?

    Re: RainX or Similar Product

Personal preference really. RainX is pretty easy to use though, and cheap, so often an easy way to go.

Some like Aquapel, or wax, UQD, UQW.

I'll use RainX, and then use UQW on the windows as I go over the whole car.

I have had much better luck with Aquapel. I would use UQW exclusively before I went back to RainX.

Like Murr and Strife said, RainX on the front and then whatever spray wax I'm using I use on the sides.

I don't think you're gonna find anything much better than RainX. I hate driving a car in the rain without it!

I hate using wipers! I've been using Rain-X for over 30 years. Good stuff, but it doesn't last, so it needs to be applied every 2-3 weeks to be effective. Try some Aquapel. A single-use applicator is about $7, so it's much more expensive, but will shed water for 4-6 months, eliminating the need for wipers above 35-40 mph. Now that spring is here, I may go back to Rain-X, but for the winter months when weather doesn't permit re-application every few weeks, Aquapel is the ticket.

If cost is no object then try Permanon, simply spray on and wipe off, lasts for months. A .5 liter bottle is around $90 but it dilutes at 5% which yields around 2.5 gallons of product. If you can get over the hefty price tag, each 16oz bottle you make works out to about $4.50.

There is now also a specific Permanon Glass product which I would like to sample eventually, but standard Permanon works so well on glass, paint, wheels, and other surfaces already that I'm in no hurry. My bottle of RainX has been collecting dust since trying Permanon.

I use Stoner Invisible Glass Cleaner With Rain Repellent. Use it for cleaning windows and leaves a RainX type repellant on the windows.

AccuVison!!!! It's an older product and I can never find it, but when I do I buy a ton of it. Castrol made it and I recently saw they brought it back for a while at a Super Wal-Mart, but it is overall sometime rare to find.

It is a spray and wipe (no buffing or streaking) so it's great. I apply it to my windshield every few months and the rest of my windows about once a year and it works wonders for me. It's probably about $5 for a bottle that lasts a while.
