  • Ultimate Wax -vs- NXT 2.0

I'm sure this question has been asked 100 times but after an hour searching I could not find it anywhere.

I'm wondering what the difference is between Ultimate Liquid Wax and NXT 2.0 They are both synthetic and seem to last quite well which I'm looking for. In my case I have a medium blue car, clear coat, 7 years old with paint quite good condition. It is parked out side 24x7. Pigeon droppings are a fact of NYC life....

I will wash, clay and ultimate polish. I have a DA but have no problems with manual applcation/removal.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

I have used both liquid products on more than one vehicle and like the shine that both leave on dark (Race Red, Dark Pearl Blue Metallic, Bordeaux Red Metallic) and light (Mineral Gray, Oxford White) paint.

Ultimate Liquid Wax (hand application) - more longevity and durability, will not stain trim/molding, ease of application/removal, more of a prizimatic effect in the sun at certain angles compared to the NXT 2.0.
NXT 2.0 Liquid Wax (DA application) - leans more towards a polish, it has some fillers, may stain trim/molding, not as long lasting (less longevity) as ULW.

I am sure someone will correct me or add to my answer and that is perfectly fine with me.

I currently prefer the ULW for it's ease and durability. I use UP/ULW on my WW (weekend warrior) and I use Color X on my DD (daily driver) vehicles.

What we can say definitively is that Ultimate Wax is now our longest lasting, best protecting wax - a title that NXT 2.0 used to hold. As 1994Gen1L points out, the liquid version of UW will not stain plastic trim, something we can not say about our other liquid waxes. How each looks is going to depend on a lot of factors, most importantly your own perceptions and likes.

UW will go on extremely thin and can be applied to a panel at a time and wiped off right away, which sometimes actually works better on darker colors. Other than that, we can't really tell you that you'll like one over the other - heck, some people prefer the look of a carnauba wax so they go with Gold Class instead of either one of these synthetics. Others will apply one of these synthetics and then top with a carnauba. As you can see, wax selection is a pretty personal thing.

Is there any cleaning agent to either one?
UW does seem like the better product for me given the car's 24x7 outdoor life. It is a BMW and the shine has held up quite well over the years and I definately want to keep it that way.

No, no cleaning ability to either of them. For a car that sits outside 24/7 we'd go with Ultimate Wax.

Goes on thin and dries clear. Love the fact I can get it on plastic trim.

Sorry, you lost me here... I understand that Ultimate Wax is a Synthetic Wax... But people are still putting a Carnuba Wax on top of Ultimate Wax? Not sure if I understood you correct here... :-D

I usually use m105 & m205 with a Sealant and then top it off with Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnuba Wax... With a Meguiars d/a...

Ultimate Wax really isn't a wax. It's a sealant. It is fully synthetic. The use of "wax" is just generic to not confuse a majority of the consumers who don't know the difference between a wax and a sealant.

So, what you are doing is what Mike Stoops was describing!

As Shawn points out, you're basically doing what we mentioned - applying a carnauba wax on top of a synthetic wax. Whether you want to call a product a "synthetic wax" or a "sealant" is just a matter of semantics; they're the same thing.

And applying a carnauba wax (like deep crystatl carnauba) is optional. Carnauba waxes have a certain depth, warmth and richness that some sealants don't have. Its having the best of both worlds, depth of a carnauba wax, durability of a sealant. That's why many people top off their sealant with a carnauba wax, but if you are happy or pleased with the "sealant look" then no reason to apply carnauba wax. Carnauba waxes will always have its place in the age of durable and easy to apply synthetic sealants.
