headliner cleaning

I purchased a '97 Mercedes with tan interior, which had a smoker in it at one time. I have gotten the smell out but the headliner still has some discoloration from both the smoke and some liquid staining (water or cleaner of some kind). I recently tried misting some APC+ and using a ultra soft brush on my Meg DA with very light pressure, and wiped down with a MF cloth. It doesn't look like it helped at all. I don't want to get it too wet. I have a small MC1275 steamer that I could try heating a terry towel on the carpet brush with and wiping it down, but I am open to suggestions from others before I try this. Anyone have some suggestions on what I should try?

I would consider APC and a damp towel, and try more of a blotting type technique first. Just sort of press and hold.
