  • Rain like spots on single stage paint

Wondering if there are any tips to removing spots on my single stage paint on a 1967 Mini Cooper. Attached is as good a photo as I could take. It is of the hood and it has received a couple of vigorous work outs with m07 and hence has a nice shine. So the clouds that you see in the photo is a reflection of an actual cloud and not a cloudy area of the pain. So even though the paint in the photo looks a little cloudy, especially towards the bottom of the photo, it is a reflection. There is no cloudiness to the paint at all. You'll also see reflections of roofs - also not on the paint - thankfully!
But if you look closely you can see spots on the paint - they look like they are very deep in the paint. Any thoughts on how to remove?

Are you working by hand, or machine? How old is the paint job? Seems thin anywhere?

I'm working by hand as that is my preference for single stage. I do have a DA but keep that for my day car with a clear coat. The paint is definitely old but hard to tell the exact age. The car is a 67 which makes it 45 but it was repainted at some stage. I think it was done long time ago as it was repainted single stage and is not such a valuable car that someone would have paid a lot of money for a single stage paint job - so I'm thinking single stage was the norm at the time it was repainted which would make the paint over 25 or more years old. The paint does not seem very thin except in one place - the raised bump down the center of the hood. You can see that raised section on the bottom left of the photo above - in the 7 o'clock position. Otherwise it seems fairly ok.

Well, certainly want to be more delicate in thin spots.

Where it is thicker, #80 is a good mild cleaner, and Ult. Compound is a good strong cleaner. A small test spot with those would be reasonable, by hand or DA.

If they are really deep, then they are just like really deep scratches, and all you may want to do is improve them a bit.

Mild is the way to go - 80 is a good idea. Will give it a go. Thanks.
