  • advise on what product to use on new BAKFLIP F1

I bought a new pickup folding hard cover called the Bakflip F1 and in the instructions it states to use the product below for maintaining the cover. I cut and pasted this from their web site. I only use Meguiars on interior and exterior of all my vehicles. Please review below and tell me what product I should use. I live in Florida and the sun bakes my vehicles.

    Thanks,
    Roth79

Question? How is the cover cleaned?
The cover is washed and cleaned with the same stuff that you safely use on your vehicle to wash and wax your vehicle. Once washed and dried, we recommend 303 Protectant

Sounds like Ult. Protectant would be a good choice.

OK, just did a bit of quick research on this cover ...... so...........

we found the question on their FAQ and it seems our forum software truncated a bit of it when you copied and pasted. They recommend 303 Protectant, but they also recommend Armor All and Son-of-a-Gun, which means they're just recommending any good water based dressing - simple as that. (Please, no negative comments about the horrors of Armor All, it's a bunch of Internet myth nonsense, there's nothing wrong with the product). Now, what this means relative to the Meguiar's line of products is this: you could use any number of our products, from M40 to Natural Shine or Supreme Shine, Hyper Dressing, All Season Dressing, Silicone Free Dressing, Water Based Dressing (those last four from our Detailer Line, by the way) or either Ultimate Protectant or Ultimate Black. Yep, that's a lot of choices, but you can quickly narrow them down for this application. With the exception of All Season Dressing, every one of these is a water based dressing, including 303, AA and S-o-a-G, and that means that when this cover gets wet these are all going to run off, at least to some degree. But two of them, Ultimate Protectant and Ultimate Black, while still water based, are also loaded with a special polymer that will allow them to actually bond to plastic, vinyl and similar surfaces and stay put when it rains or you wash the surface. If you start with either one of these when the cover is new, before you ever apply anything else to it, you'll be good to go.

Application of either of the Ultimates mentioned above is basically the same, with the really important thing being that you do not over use them. A little bit goes a long, long way. Heck, if you have a buffer you can even apply them to this large surface area with that - just use a soft foam pad and a slow speed on the buffer, and you can cover the cover in no time. If applying by hand, we'd go with the Ultimate Protectant because it's a spray (U. Black is a lotion) and therefore easier to spray onto a folded microfiber towel and then applied to the cover. This strikes us as faster and easier than using the lotion on a small applicator pad as you can dispense a small amount of the spray over a larger area of the towel, and therefore more quickly spread a thin amount over the entire cover. And don't forget that "little bit goes a long way" part - it really does. There should be no excess to wipe off (if there is then you used too much) and it will dry completely dry to the touch in a matter of minutes.
