  • missed out polish

Ooooops, I have just done my first 2 bucket wash, dried with microweave towel and a Kent buffer towel, then after about 2 hours, I went out and clayed the bonnet and then about an hour later waxed using Mequires liquid wax.
After doing this and being well pleased with the results I remembered that I had forgot to put the polish on before the wax.
My question is what should i do now.
    a) Strip of the wax ( if this how will i do it) ?
    b) Polish over the top of the wax, then re wax twice?
    c) Some other suggestion from all you fine people?

Guess what I will never make that mistake again.
It was all done by hand as dont have a DA at the moment but will very soon.
    Thanks

      Re: missed out polish

Its not a big deal, polish is meant to remove swirls and cleans the paint so just apply it next time you wash the car or within a month or two. The only drawback would be that you would want to reapply wax after you polish because polish will remove the wax.

        Re: missed out polish

Since you're doing all this by hand, we're in agreement with the others here who suggest you not worry about it and just do it next time. After all, you did say that you're well pleased with the results, and that's what's most important as you continue to learn more about detailing and hone your skill set.

Out of curiosity, which polish do you have that you neglected to use? The word "polish" can mean a lot of different things to different people so we're interested in what you ultimately want to achieve here. Are there a lot of noticeable swirls in the paint? Is the car a light or dark color?

The car is silver over silver grey, the bonnet is silver and cant really see any swirls, the polish is UP.
I really just want to get my 1999 car looking better than it does and seeing as it has never been polished or waxed then it looks better already, even just using NXT wash it looked good. I need to do a bit of repair work to bonnet as it has a few stone chips on it but a bit concerned about doing it as not done anything like that before, but can only look better than the 3 brown spots on the bonnet.

            Re: missed out polish

Since lighter colors will show less dramatic results following application of a light or pure polish than darker colors will, we'll stick by the earlier advice of just holding off until the next time you go over the car. That could be in as little as a few weeks if you just can't wait, or a couple of months after the wax starts to break down pretty noticeably. It's really up to you, but the important thing here is that you've made some really positive progress with the appearance of the paint so next time around you can take things up a notch.

              Re: missed out polish

I agree with everyone else. I have a Galaxy Grey Mazda 3 (silver grey) and I've done a comparison on my hood, and polish makes no difference on my car. So I suggest just doing a section of your hood next time to see if it makes any difference at all before you spend what could be a lot of wasted time.
