  • New to compounding????

Hey everyone i love my car but the paint isnt the greatest its a 2000 its in ok condition but has lots of wash wear swirl marks n scratches there not all bad but i know if i compound it itll look a lot better but never compounded before i wash n wax all the time but its color matched **** so the only thing i have is a store bought 12" buffer polisher will that be strong enough to use i bought meguires compound so any advice would be great thanks!!!!

If the money is there, go out and buy either the Meguiars D/A buffer or the Griots Garage 6 D/A. You cant go wrong with either. Then get the Meguairs softbuff 2.0 yellow polishing pad to use with the buffer and ultimate compound. Read up on a few articles on this website on how to use a D/A correctly and you'll have your paint looking great in no time.

You can try the newer products like SwirlX or Ult. Compound with the cheaper buffers. Trying a test spot wont hurt anything.

ok so i was bored today i took meguiars ultimate compound and my store bought buffer now mind you its only 90w its not a professional one but anyway regardless i used it on my hood today omg what a difference now its not finished still has some scratches but look what i was using but the sparkle it has now just from the compound is unbelieveable i need to get a really good polisher i bet i could have it looking brand new . my other thought is i was wondering if meguiars makes a compound polish i love the way the car sparkled after the compounding and wanted to keep that anyone have any suggestions.

Good to hear you made some progress.

Ult. Polish would be a milder cleaner/polish to follow up with. And then a coat or two of your favorite wax after.

Then in the future you could just use the Ult. Polish + wax when looking for a milder detail.

That compound worked so well it gives it such a mirror look now mind you this is an everyday car and its a 2000 and if you look at the back part of the car youll see me lol
