  • Can this brown dot be removed?

    Hey guys,

I was doing a quick clean up of bird droppings on my car today, and I noticed a brown spot that wouldn't wipe away. It looks like it might be in the clear coat, but I'm not sure what it is. Do you guys think a clay bar will remove it? Or will I need to use polish/compound? Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's a pic, it's the big brown dot (click for a larger pic):

If you have clay and a paint cleaner, try them both...

Looks similar to rail dust or other type of surface contamination. Try a decon gel such as the Valugard abc system , iron-x or Wolfs decon gel. There are plenty of companies that market this type of product. A lot of brand new cars that sit for extended time at the docks and car lots pick up this type of stuff. These products are meant to be sprayed on and dissolve contaminants and then be rinsed off.Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

That looks like oxidation. As i can see from some other parts in the Hood there are many small spots too.
Try claying first. If it doesnt go awaytry using a paint cleaner (Cleaner Wax, Ultimate COmpound, SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0) or a product of this type.

And if all of the above doesnt work, then.
You can sand with a 2500-3000 sanding paper, then use M105 and m205 on a rotary >: ) iF it doesnt come out with that. then WTH is it! :P

You guys are awesome, thanks for all the helpful responses. I haven't had time to get down and clay the car, but that'll be the first thing I try. I'll keep you guys updated with the results.
