  • M105 Won't Rub Off

    Hey All,
I'm detailing a 2008 F250 white truck and it has a lot of scratches and surface dirt/discolour so I decided to rock with M105 after a solid claying. I think I am using a decent amount with a rotary and wool pad but the compound it extremely difficult to rub off, I have to use quick detailer and really rub it in to remove it. What am I doing wrong?

I woud say either too much product, or you are allowing it to dry on the surface. Once your pad is primed, 2-3 small (pea sized) drops will easily do a 2'x2' area. Make your passes and wipe off right away. You can also spritz a little water on the surface 1/2 way through your passes, this should cut down on dusting, and make it easier to wipe off.

+1 or also find a bit of shade as the surface of the paint should be cool.

make sure the car is cool to touch and start with priming the pad so its all whiteish colored. After buffing a couple of sections, clean your pad with a brush and put small drops. Its more time over amount of product with meguiars m105.

          hope this helps

Don't let it dry, 105 doesn't have long working time.

Instead you may use D300 or UC.

              Re: M105 Won't Rub Off

If the paint you are working on is dry M105 can perform like you mention. The moisture in the M105 is taken up by the paint and doesn't remain, for want of a better explaination, on the surface but rather is drawn into the surface. This can make the product gum up and stick to the surface.

To remove the residue easily, put an amount of M105 onto a foam hand pad and rub over the dried sections. It should rub right off. (Like products remove like products.)

Might be worth using M80 on the paint first, as it has more oils in the product which this paint may need. After an application of M80, return to M105 and try again. If the surface is no longer dry then M105 should work much better and it will be easier to target the defects you're trying to correct.
