Re: Holograms after using UC by hand

Well guys, I gave it a shot and SwirlX got rid of those marks all right.

But I flipped my car around to see the driver's side, I noticed that there's more of those nasty marks. I even found a couple scratches so I just UC'd those off. and Yup my paint is in fact delicate. I think I'll be treating my whole car with swirlX tonight, and see what the results are on the sun tomorrow. After I touch up some spots, It'll be ready for the 2 coats I planned, but seeing how fresh it is I'm thinking 3 coats.

Thank you so much for your help Mark Kleis , Michael Stoops , Murr1525, and umi000

After using UC, UP, and UW... I'm not happy with smooth as glass.
Smooth as Glass is an old standard, the new standard for paint texture is Meguiar's Ultimate Quality...

Glad we could help. I wish caution you this, though, make sure whatever process you found worked and was verified in the sun - make sure you duplicate it exactly if you aren't going to be checking your work until you finish the entire car. That means pressure, amount of product, size of the area you work, etc.

Something like an overly saturated pad, or trying to slowly work a larger area can reduce effectiveness of a product and you could end up frustrated tomorrow. Just make sure you are consistent

Does anyone know if the paint on a 2011 GMC Yukon is soft or hard? Does the hardness depend on product? I would like to know prior to starting a project and having to leave for more supplies. I have clay mild and standard UWW UC UP GCCW UW M34

I had this same problem with my Honda Civic. I used UC for the first time, and it worked excellent. When I used it the second time, it only created more swirl marks and Holagrams. Whoa dude, I was upset. But the guys on this site asked me what Applicator I was using, and I realized I was using an AUTOZONE terry cloth applicator. It was way too aggresive. After I changed to a yellow foam pad, It worked just fine again.

It's almost impossible to tell you with absolute certainty whether your paint is "hard", "soft", "delicate" etc. We've seen so many cases where people on detailing forums make broad claims for a certain brand having really hard paint, only to work on a few that are anything but. And we've seen the exact opposite as well. It is fairly common for Honda vehicles to have fairly soft paint, and many Mazdas as well. But not all of them. BMW paint, for example, is just all over the map because they build cars in various factories in multiple countries. And the same can be said for GM vehicles, although it's pretty rare to find a GM product with paint as delicate as what is often used on Japanese vehicles (which tend to have the highest incidence of delicate paints).

As always, the best thing you can do is to start off with a test spot on the hood. We would start with Ultimate Compound and give it an honest working on a small area of the hood and compare that section with an untouched area. That will give you the first indication as to how your paint is going to respond to your input.
