  • Holograms after using UC by hand

Hi, I've been getting holograms after using Ultimate Compound BY HAND, Is there anyway to remove it? I didn't even know it was possible to leave holograms by hand, but I guess I was too harsh on the paint. I'd post up pictures, but it's hard to capture as you need to move around to see it)

How about stepping down to a yellow foam hand applicator, and use medium to light instead of heavy pressure? I'm thinking that the MF applicator might be more aggressive than foam; also, since UC is SMAT, lighter pressure should mean less cut.

Yeah, my first thought are that either it is a rough MF, or that you may have been putting pressure on it with your finger tips, rather than palm/area under fingers.

All of the above bolded are true.
So is there any fix to this? I found that waxing it with NXT 2.0 helps.
I'm not sure where to find any foam pads. Can I fix it with my MF pads and just use light pressure? Because I think these marks were caused because I was putting so much pressure on it with the MF pads since it came with a handle

Did you do you whole car, or hopefully just a panel or so?

I always like using the smooth foam type applicators:

Some people have used the Meguiars 4" pads and the handle.. cant find the link for it right now, someone will probably help.

You do have a few options:
              1. The simplest is try lighter pressure, and even pressure.
              2. After that, you can look at different pad, with the pressure and good technique.
              3. And then milder products if needed.

If the marks were put in by hand easily, they should be removable.. but you'll have to work on it to judge the results.

              Here is some more info:

If you want to do some great correction work by hand pick up Meguiars S3HP hand applicator to use with the 4 inch pads. You will achieve a much better finish using the handle and pad as oppossed to just holding an applicator pad by hand. Next up the list is picking up a D/A and pads. But you can still achieve great results with the S3HP/4 inch pads.

It sounds like a combination of an overly aggressive applicator pad, pressure from your fingertips pushing through the pad, and fairly delicate paint. Have a look at The Challenge of Delicate Paint for more information on dealing with delicate paint and how to avoid the hazing issues.

I'm quite busy from school work at the moment. But I've skimmed through the thread (I swear I'll read it thoroughly later). But it appears to say that using a cleaner wax would help with the hazing issue? Would it actually make the hazing go away? Even after the wax has gone? or would it just be laying down below the wax?

In general, a cleaner/wax by hand would have trouble removing swirls unless the paint was reall soft.

Depending on just how delicate the paint is, a good cleaner wax like ColorX or M06 will actually remove the haze while leaving a nice layer of protection. If the paint isn't super delicate you may need a good, but light, cleaner polish first. M80 or M205 are good here, but you applicator choice, and how you use it, will play a role. Working by hand on very delicate paint can be tricky, but using the hand pad mentioned above and in that article can make the process much easier, and dramatically minimize micro marring.

I'm having a hard time between ColorX and SwirlX here.

Although I'm pretty sure my paint isn't super delicate as Ultimate Compound didn't leave hazing/micromarring before (until I pressured it really hard on the surface...). What do you guys think? I'm on a fairly limited budget at the moment, but I also want these haze marks gone.

It's honestly impossible to say for sure, unfortunately. Every car reacts differently so it isn't something we can say for sure - especially without being able to see it for ourselves.

That said, I think SwirlX is the safest bet as depending on how much pressure you use and your application medium (ie use a foam pad, not microfiber), you should be able to get the damage out entirely without leaving anything behind. ColorX *might* work, but it is hard to say for sure.

I do really think finding some foam pads is key, though. They can be had very inexpensively online, or you may want to try various auto parts stories, WalMart, etc

Well, I finally got the chance to get my stuff together. I bought
                              -SwirlX
                              -Cleaner Wax
                              -New set of microfiber cloths
-Foam "sponge" applicators made by autozone (closest one I could find)

                              I plan to
                              1. Wash (on shaded area)
                              2. SwirlX on areas affected by UC's hazing marks (on sun, as I cannot see it on the shade at all)
                              3. Cleaner Wax (as coat 1, shaded)
                              4. NXT 2.0 (as coat 2, shaded)

                              Any objections?
Note: I do not have a clay kit.

Thank you so much for your help, I'll post my results here tomorrow after I'm done
