  • Suggestions on prep and wax

Been a long time user of Meguiars, i have a 08 orange silverado as seen. Just recently had the chrome wheels stripped and painted black and orange to match the truck. Anyhew next week is time to wax the car for the show season. Now this is a daily driver and I do have swirls/fine scratches so to speak in the paint. I dont think its beyond that such as medium scratches. Which I noticed last week when I washed the car. So what do you recommend to use? With all the products that Meguiars has not sure what to use? I assume the 105/205 would be too harsh for what I have? Should I use ultimate compound, then ultimate polish followed by NXT 2.0 or Ultimate Wax? I used 2.0 last year. I used a low rpm buffer for everything. Thank you.

Well, starting off mild is always a good thing, and then bumping it up some if needed.

    So, something like:

    1. Wash - 2 buckets, Gold Class soap, Grit Guards, good quality mitts/towels
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit

    3. Clean - This is where the options are... Ult. Polish is a good product. Though #205 is just a tad stronger of a cleaner, and so if there are swirls to fix, could be a little better option. Then, if needed, you could look at Ult. Compound if a test spot/area dont show any of the swirls removed.
    4. Wax - Your favorite..
    5. Wax - Two thin coats are best.
    6. Maintain - Ult. Quick Wax for after future washes.

I did pick up both ultimate compound and ultimate polish. I looked today in the sun and basically I just have swirls in the paint. So depending on the swirls, polish, if that doesnt take them out, then go to the compound. Whats the diff between ultimate wax nx 2.0? Whats better? thank you kevin

Yeah, you would do a test spot/area with the Ult. Polish, and stand back and examine the work, see if the swirls ,etc are gone. If yes, then good. If mostly gone, one more pass is ok. If not really, then you can do a test spot with the UC. Always check the work, ask here if you have questions before doing the whole car.

The Ult. Wax is Meguairs best protecting wax, the Nxt 2.0 used to be.

The Ult. Wax works great for me, but it does apply a bit different than other waxes, esp the liquid version. The Nxt 2.0 is a bit more traditional. So be sure to do a quick search on here for applying, removing the Ult. if you go with it.
