  • Swirl removal?....idk i'm a newbie

the paint on my car is as smooth as glass, but there are tons of swirls.....i used meguiars nxt generation spray wax and followed the instructions carefully, but I still see swirls (it says fills in fine marks and swirls)....I don't have a buffer, just 100% cotton terry cloths.....any suggestions/ help?

Well, I sense one problem possibly.. The Nxt Spray Wax is only a booster wax, not meant to be the only wax used. There should be a good coat of a liquid, or paste wax on the car before using a spray booster wax.

Are you using a good car wash, clay, paint cleaner, polish, and wax, all the appropriate steps?

You may need to use a more abrasive paint cleaner, like a scratchX before polishing and waxing, or #83, or #9 swirl remover to remove the swirls, before waxing. Even ColorX can be used.

Even though Nxt says it fills in swirls, you can already tell it would be best to just remove them, not fill them in. Maybe if you can mention some more about your procedure ,and products used, we can help explain even more.

maybe you are using a sponge with little dusty particles in, wich can cause to make swirls... or your towels have become dirty wich can cause swirls also... be sure everything that touches your car is clean as possible.

um.....I don't know if I would consider my car wash concentrate great, and I don't have a clay bar or any of that other stuff, but I need to get it perfect cuz we are gonna sell it

Vandelete also makes a good point that your cleaning materials must also be good to achieve best results.

But, in my opinion, if you are going to sell the car, and dont want to put in hours working, ColorX worked into the surface, even 2 coatings, could be the answer. It has diminishing abrasives, which would remove most swirls, and add polish and wax protection. 2 coatings would just help remove more swirls.

That said, if the swirls are severe, something more agressive could be needed. But, if you are hoping to clean up for sale without lots of effor, start with ColorX. And then dont show the car under a halogen light incase anything got left.....

Since you didnt mention your other cars that you may be keeping, I'll assume you arent worried about stocking up on products for lots of use on them. ColorX would be easy to keep on hand to touch up your regular cars as well since it is just a 1-step product.

If that doesnt work, or doesnt seem like it will do enough, we can talk about other products and whatnot.

            Hi

Most of the write-ups we post in our "Detail Days at Meguiar's" forum read like "How-to" articles for removing swirls and restoring show car shine. An example would be the write-up I have started just this week for the San Diego Mercedes-Benz club. Have you seen these pictures? (They're on the Frontpage).

            Before

After ScratchX, Deep Crystal Polish and one application of NXT Tech Wax Paste

Those results were obtained with less than $40.00 worth of Meguiar's products and the human element of care and passion.

            This includes,

The swirls in the hood of this car are best described as horrendous, chances are you don't have near as bad as swirls as these as these were instilled through shoddy work with a rotary buffer.

Click here to read how we applied the above products to remove the swirls and restore a swirl free finish by hand.
