  • Noob here! MF pads for DA and need help

Hi all, I am a really long time Meguairs user, and first time ever I just bought the meguairs DA and MF 6" correction kit. I used the process on my black Acura(about 2 years old)... WOW.... simply amzing, took care of 80% of the swirls.

I will be repeating this process again in 2 weeks on my black acura, but I also have a 12 year old white Acura I would like to use this process on.
Once I get the swirls and defects out I will not be using the D300 and D301 till probably next year or so, or until needed

Can I use the MF finishing pad to apply Ultimate Liquid wax every 3 month or would I need to buy another kind of pad for this. Also what Megs sealant/wax will give me the longest protection and durability? Is ULW the only choice? I am looking to give my car a deep glossy shine with the longest protection and durability.

Also wanted to add, my brother has a 2006 Acura TSX, the car is black and needs tons of paint correction. I will use the DA MF kit, but what advice can i give to him on upkeep after I do the paint correction. He does not have a DA and probably will never get one.

Sorry for all the Noob questions...

Now that you have eliminated or reduced the swirls, it's time to prevent creating more and maintaining your new level of clarity. Start by reviewing the recommended five step process.

Improper washing and drying habits can reintroduce defects. So check out these videos for helpful tips.

I might suggest purchasing a polishing/finishing pad to apply the wax of your choice. The MF finishing pad will work, as you've seen with #301 finishing wax, but it might be just a little too aggressive. I kind of think with the 6" MF pad it might take a little extra care to not get the wax on too thick. If you can afford it, a smaller backing plate and a couple smaller foam pads are nice both for waxing and polishing tight areas. If you use Ultimate Wax, you need to strive for a thin application. Ultimate Wax is advertised as having the best longevity.

One of the keys to that deep, glossy shine is a smooth surface. The use of automotive clay before using your MFDA system is beneficial. So when you start your brother's car do a thorough wash, clay, MFDA and then wax. Then the last step would be teaching your brother the proper maintenance steps, especially washing.

You should also become familiar with the use of Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax. Great products to maintain black.

Just curious, with success with 300&301 why are you considering Ultimate Compound? Although a great product in its own right. Ultimate Polish is noted more for cleaning and polishing, not for extending durability of waxes. Maybe depth and gloss, but 301 does a good job of that too.

Do you have a process in mind for this variety of products?

THank for the quick response once again..

I already had some Ultimate compound lying around, so I thought I would use it up also.

As for process On my newer black acura
          Wash and Dry,
          No Clay just recently done.
Use the DA MF kit one more time, to take care of rest of the swirls
After about a month or so I will use the Ultimate polish and Ultimate wax. Now what pads would I need for this process? I was thinking the 9207 7in soft buff pad and 6.5 yellow polishing. Any advice on this.

On my Brothers car and my White Acura
          Wash
          Clay
          Correction Kit
and tell him up keep with Ultimate Quick Wax and after 2 month do the Ultimate Paste Wax by hand.

Re: Noob here! MF pads for DA and need help

For me, Ultimate Polish has a bipolar personality. With a yellow Meguiar's pad and a speed of 5 on a Porter-Cable, with moderate pressure and slow arm speed, it will perform minor corrections. With a black Meguiar's pad and slower speeds and less pressure, it will perform excellent polishing prior to waxing. Usually you want to wax with a soft black pad either Meguiar's or Lake Country (there are others of course). You don't wish to mar your perfect finish with an aggressive pad. I prefer a smaller pad to wax, as it makes it easier for me to get over profiles and into tight spots. Like a 4" pad running at speed 3. Also using a foam hand applicator for around mirrors, logos and whatnot and using a PC on the rest you can get Ultimate Wax on thinly as recommended by Meguiar's.

With the Ultimate Compound, use a yellow pad, speed and pressure dependent on severity of defects. Follow with Ultimate Polish, as described above. Remember, work on a test spot and get it perfect before proceeding to the rest of the car. With both MFDA Correction System and "traditional" foam pads and UC and UP you have a few options, especially if you mix methods to come up with the unique process for each car. Check out the photos from Saturday classes.

Look forward to some pictures of all your projects.
