  • Bad paint job fading

Any and all suggestions are welcomed because I do need some help. I recently purchased a 2004 car the previous owner indicated that the paint was oxidized. I then found out that the car had been repainted and what I was told was oxidation was really a lousy paint job by MAACO additionally I found out that this paint job is less then 3 years old so I an sure I have more damage to look forward too.

The fading is on all the flat surfaces. The car color is a dark red metallic. Is there any product that might help me bring back this paint?

A pic or two could be helpfull.

But in general, you would want to start with a basic detail, and see how what happens.

    Something like

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Clean/Polish - SwirlX
    4. Wax
    5. Wax

    and see how it goes.

I spoke to a reputable detailer over the phone about this mess and was told that waxing the car will only add to my misery. I will take some pictures and post them to the forum. It looks like left behind wax haze if you know what I mean. Thanks again for your help!

It certainly may not go to brand new... but should be able to be a bit better.

A picture will really help here. It almost sounds like this might be a single stage paint job and that's easy to test for: apply a bit of cleaner wax to a small area and check to see if your applicator comes up the same color as the car. If so, you've got single stage paint. If not, it's a clear coat finish. Single stage can oxidize to the point where red looks more pink and white but it's usually pretty straightforward to fix. When a clear coat looks badly oxidized it has often failed to the point where it can no longer be repaired and a repaint is in order.

This paint job I believe was from MAACO their Presidential which is cheap and yes the applicator came up with the same color as the paint so can assume there is not a quick fix to this with detailing and the car must be repainted?

The color coming up simply means single stage paint. Doesnt have anything to say about how easy or hard fixing may be.

              What cleaner did you use?

That all depends on what the paint is supposed to be, or was when MAACO painted it: if it was a single stage paint job then you're going to pull color even when just using a cleaner wax, but you should be able to remove a good bit of the oxidation and make it look much better. Keep in mind, however, that there's only so much you can do for a low cost paint job that has taken a turn for the worse. If, on the other hand, it was a clear coat and you're now pulling color, that means the clear is shot and a repaint is in order.

You would want to upload the pictures to yoru gallery here, or another pic posting site, then insert the link.
