Not a noob to car cleaning or detailing. I had a small detail business in the 80's which I did quite well with after hours and on the weekends. I purchased a G110v2 in mid-year 2010 and removed some 5 yr old hard water spots that my wife accumulated on our (her) DD Mineral Gray Mustang GT. The DA and UC, Swirl X and NXT 2.0 took care of the mess the so-called detailer made for us. The only residual damage was fine CC etching from the rain/water spot's.
Flash forward to Feb. 2012 and I am slowly getting my 1994 Oxford White Lightning cleaned up after months of brake work and so forth. The first detail of the year and I decide to tackle some of the pre-2009 water spots and scratches that I was unable to remove when I bought the truck in May 2009. Back in May 2009, I went through 2 new clay bars on the initial detail. The truck was white but the surface was very rough to the touch. I would say it was a 10' paint job then and a 4' paint job today. It does bring lots of looks from passer's by. The cab, top of cab, fenders, doors, hood and left bed side have been repainted BC/CC at some point.
Oh, I am the 5th owner.
I have tried my DA on speed 5 with UC/Scratch X and W8207 Polishing pad which took out the swirls on the truck. I am unable to remove some of the scratchs on the side of the cab, doors, bed and top of cab. It looks as if someone used the Lightning as a 4X4 and took it down a narrow trail as well as set a tool box on top of the cab. I am referring to the type and amount of scratches. The paint has a highgloss to it and I have clayed the truck 3 times in about 12,000 miles/3 years. I have taken pic's under the lights in the garage. Although, the scratches are very hard to point out in the digital pic's.
I am wondering if I should try the DA/UC/W7207 (I have one new pad) combo, the DA/W8207/105 combo or should I purchase the MF DA system? I know that 4800 RPM (4) on the Meg's DA is what is recommended. Other than the MF system, what combo speeds do you recommend? Or, should I just drop the money on the MF DA system and be done with it?
Thank you, James
