• Is this Expedition a candidate for Ultimate Compound?

My wife just purchased a 2003 Ford Expedition. It's red, but it appears the paint has faded. There is no clear coat damage thankfully. One section, near the bottom of this image, has been repainted, and is a deeper darker red than the rest of the truck. The doorjambs also match that. I've been thinking of buying Meg's Paint Restoration Kit, and claying the paint and using Ultimate Compound. I know this isn't the best pic to show what I'm talking about, but the differences are more apparent seeing it in person. It really does look "faded" compared to the doorjambs and the repainted area. So, does paint actually "fade" or is this a case of the clear coat just oxidizing? Again, no clear coat damage at all, it just looks to be a different shade of red due to sun exposure. Would claying and Ultimate Compound bring some of the color back? All I had on had was Color X (which I love) but it didn't make any difference when I tried it. A few years ago I used Ultimate Compound on my old Toyota 4x4 and was amazed at the results. But that was a single stage paint, unlike this one.

    You can certainly try it.

However, if the red itself is faded, then you wont be able to bring the color match back.

Sounds like the paint shop may have just painted with the original color paint, and didnt try to match it.

I was afraid that was the case. Would UC bring the paint to its full potential (even though I see very few swirls)? I'm trying to convince myself to buy the kit...

The kit is pretty good either way, esp if you can get it on sale.

All the towels/pads are re-useable, and the clay can be saved if it is decent. Just may need more QD next time.

You can use the UC this time, and then use something milder like Ult. Polish or ColorX in the future.

I would say it could only get better from where its at right now, give it a shot.

I would give the paint restoration kit a try. Walmart usually has it for the cheapest price at a local store, and ADS currently has it on sale due to overstock. If you think you may be ordering a few more things for your car, check ADS out.
