  • Can I clean these wheels or should I send to a professional

I bought this set of late 1970's Western Wheel Company turbine wheels off of a 1978 Eldorado parts car that has been sitting outside for years. I am going to put them on my 1976 Eldorado Convertible which is not a show car, just a fun driver in the summer. They are in good shape but visibly need some work. Will I be able to clean them up with Meguiars products, or do you think I should take them to a professional.

I will pick them up in a few days and had nothing with me today so I could not test if they were coated/painted/cleared/etc. I think the rust on the one picture is run off from the center cap.

I have any Meguiars product in my garage that you will suggest might work and a gas powered pressure washer. Lots of spiders living in the wheels....

The first picture is what they would have looked like new. Thanks for any suggestions you may have....

I think you could hit them with #105/UC and some terry cloth and see where it gets you.

So the guy called and said he got the wheels off the car and I drove back up and picked them up. Sprayed some APC+ on the wheels and used pressure washer and got alot of the mud and dirt off of them. They look better but still need polished. The other day I read a post on how to tell if wheels are clear coated/painted/bare, but I can't find it. Used search function but could not locate it. Post said to take some product and a MF towel and rub the wheel. If anyone knows what I am talking about, I'd appreciate it if you could give me that info.

If you use something like UC/#105, and rub it in, bare metal will come up soot black.

Painted will be the wheel color, or a dirty gray.

I think I remember reading about how to tell what kind of wheels you have too, but can't find it as well.
Google brought up a similar topic on another forum.
How to determine what type of wheels you have? Now follow me, wheels are either made from a material and you're working directly on the material, exam

Thanks for the link GhOsT1321.That was the information I was looking for. The silver turbines must be clearcoated. I tried some Megs Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish and no change of color. The center caps must be bare aluminum because I tried them and cloth turned black right away.
