  • Oxidation signs starting to show on 2005 Infinity G35?

    Hello,

It’s been awhile since IO have posted and I must say I have been staying with the Regime if using Maguire’s Ultimate product line since I bought my 2011 Lancer and it still looks new. Love it.

I have a question for a friend of mine who has a 2005 Infinity G35 that is getting some back oxidation marks. The odd things is that these marks just started showing within the last 3 months. I have attached some pictures.

I am trying to give her some advice on what she can do to stop this or fix what is already happening with the cars paint. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

thats clear coat failure. Nothing you can do exept taking it to the paint shop. Though that could be where the problem started.

This car went through some type of spill in the road about 3 months ago I was told as well. She doesn't now what she went through but it splashed on the underneath part of her car leaving it yellow? She had no idea until someone told her as the yellow can be seen in the fender wall since it's under the car. I am thinking she might have been splashed with some type of chemical causing this breakdown to occur.

If this is the case this isn't oxidation but it's a chemical reaction eating through the coating of the car.

        I agree with you...
it's don't look like oxidation, but some chemical reaction that break the clear coat...

but unfortunately,as far as I know, nothing your friend can do when the clear coat has broken
the only cure is get it repaint... Sorry to say

Agree with everyone...sure looks like CC failure.

The top picture looks like you could just grab an edge and peel away. Much like a sun burn.

There really isn't much you can do except re-paint.

I gotta say CC failure too. San Diego sun! Looks like the paint has never been polished or waxed.....no depth or shine at all. No wax plus 7 years of sun is rough on paint.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I talked to my friend this morning at work and she says she took it to a dealer and the dealer is saying it’s oxidation!?

The damage is only on the hood and top of the car though. I just think it’s odd that it just seemed to show within the last 3 months. I thought oxidation would take longer. If it was a splash from the ground it would have been on the sides of the car as well and this isn’t the case.

I asked her how well she took care of the car and she I’ll update if I get more info. Just seems odd. The car is 2005 and she hands waxes it once a year and use a automatic car wash about every 2 weeks.
I think this is paint failure myself and I she might be able to take it back under warranty. From what I know paint warranty can be around 7-10 years (I need to check).

My old car was 2002 Dodge Struts and I treated the paint like **** and used automatic car washes and never waxed by hand and it only had a little quarter size oxidation mark on the hood when I sold it last year. I would leave my car out in the hot California sun all day long as well.

I told her to take it to the Infinity dealer and see what they say. If it’s still under warranty (which it should be) she might be able to file a claim...Maybe

If she hand waxes ONLY once a year and puts the car thru an auto wash every 2 weeks....there's no way the wax lasted much more than a month.

If you really believe that she may have driven through a chemical spill, can she put it through an insurance claim? I too thought that the oxidation process took longer. If it is still under warranty, I would push for that first before anything.

She took it to the dealer and they said it was oxidation but her paint warranty ran out about 2 years ago so she is most likely going to go through her insurance company to get it fixed. I just think it's odd that it oxidized that quick and fast. The top of her car and hood look really bad. Tough luck I guess.
