  • Need help with Compound/Polish...

I am new to this forum and never used a DA before. I plan on purchasing a DA in the near future cause the swirl marks on my 2010 hemi-orange challenger are driving me crazy. I plan on practicing on a 96 Geo before putting any DA on the challenger.

My question is what prodcuts are best for the compound/polish. I keep reading varying opinions on the UC/UP as compared to the 105/205. Any suggestions?
    My plan is...

    GEO
Wash, Clay, UC or 105 with DA, UP or 205 with DA, Wax with NXT Generation Tech Wax.

    Challenger
Wash, Clay, UP or 205 with DA, Wax with NXT Generation Tech Wax.

I am afraid to use the UC or 105 on the Challenger since it is so new. But it does have swirl marks.

I was also told that I should follow up the polish with a glaze. Is there a difference in the Maguiar's products?
So the proper order would be - wash, clay, compound, polish, glaze, wax

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

If you want to be as mild as possible, and still have a chance of removing swirls, you will want to look at having UC and #205 on your shelf.

Try a test spot with the #205, and see if it helps. If not, you'll want the UC.

    Same for both cars.

The #205 has lots of oils in it. You can go to your wax after using it.

This is a good routine for detailing your vehicle. The professional line of products are tougher to use with a DA. The consumer line products are easier to use with a DA, even for your first time. As for the glaze, if I'm correct a glaze is the same as a polish. Some polishes have more oils than others. The M205 has less oils than ultimate polish. After the polishing stage you want to use a sealant to protect the finish. I have used NXT 2.0 as a sealant and it is good stuff. I've heard that the relatively new Ultimate Wax is good and lasts a long time.

So No need to use the 105? Just stick with the UC?

Yeah, UC is good for the 'stronger' cleaner on your shelf.

It is up to you, but KNOW that 105 is more aggressive than UC and is less user friendly with a DA. I would try a small section with UC. Practice your technique with the new tool and see how it works out.

But if used properly, UC can achieve same results as the 105?
Meaning it may take 2 applications to achieve the same results as 105 but is easier to work with....

And any thoughts on a good DA to get?

Check out this thread. This is what UC can do with the G110v2.

There are of course situations that #105 was designed for, that UC cant do, but that rarely includes dealing with the regular swirls on regular cars.

2-3 passes of UC with good technique really should deal with 99% of the situations out there.
