  • How to remove stains?

I need some advice on what product is best suited to remove some staining on my paint work. The attached photos show the stains in question. I have clayed the surface and it is smoothe to touch. I have then used Meguiars Ultimate Compound several times on the surface in an attempt to remove the stain with no success. I was looking at using a cutting compound but the warnings on most of them suggest they not be used on newer, metalic, clear coated or undamaged surfaces. As the majority of my paint work is in good condition I have been comprehensive about using them. Any suggestions?

That looks like more than a stain... Do you know what caused it?

I would try using a 4" polishing pad with M105. That does look more than a stain. It almost looks like the beginning stages of rust but I could be wrong, which means your clear coat is toast anyways, in that spot. What caused that?

That looks like either a very bad etching from a bird dropping or the start of clear coat failure. If it's a bird dropping etch you should be able to get it out with Ultimate Compound. Can you describe your application process of UC for us, please? Were you working by hand or with a buffer? How energetically did you apply it (ie, just a wipe on - wipe off, like a wax, or did you put some elbow grease into it)? How many attempts did you do with the UC?

Unfortunately I've been less than loving with my car for quite a while so I'm not 100% sure of the cause of the stain. My suspicion is that they are etchings from bird droppings as there are a couple on the roof, bonnet and boot lid. None on the vertical surfaces. I doubt it is rust although I'm no expert. I have tried applying UC to an applicator pad and manually buffing the stain (with some good elbow effort!) and also used an electric buffer on the surface at least 3 times with a foam applicator pad.
