  • MF DA system Question

    Hey I will be using the da MF system for the first time tomorrow and had a question,
    Which method would give me a best looking finish on my black car?

    1.d300 + cutting MF pad
    2.d301 + finishing MF pad
    3.nxt 2.0 liquid wax + foam finishing pad

    Or

    1.d300 + cutting MF pad
    2.#80 + foam polishing pad
    3.nxt 2.0 liquid wax + foam finishing pad

    Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    What kind of car is it? We really can't tell you how your paint system will react. I would highly suggest you do a test spot. You create 2 small 16"x16" areas and do the 2 options you suggested on each area. Pick the one you like and do it to the entire car.

      The DAMF System was designed primarily for high volume reconditioning facilities, not really for high end concours type work. But that doesn't mean it can't have a place in a high end detailer's arsenal, you just need to understand what's going on with the paint, the aggressiveness of the product, and how to overcome any issues that might arise. Of course, that can be said of any product or product combo you might choose.

      To that end, the DAMF System can be very aggressive and on softer or more delicate paints it can leave some noticeable marring or "DA haze" behind, especially after using D300 and the cutting disc. This is normal, for the most part, but on very delicate paint it can be pretty severe. This tends to scare people, but it's really easy to clean up, if you stop and think for a moment about what's going on. In most cases it is easily cleared up with D301 and the finishing disc, but in severe cases D301/finishing disc will only go so far. There are times, even on delicate paint, where you need this extra aggressiveness of D300/cutting disc to remove defects, so what do you do if D301 won't clear things up? That's when you sort of hybridize the DAMF System and move to foam pads, which is a pretty common practice. M205 on a foam finishing pad will easily clean up even severe haze caused by D300/cutting disc and leave a beautiful finish ready for LSP. Yes, this does add an extra step, but often when shooting for the best finish you can get you need more than two steps. And keep in mind that cases of severe haze with the DAMF System are quite rare indeed. If you've got really hard paint, on the other hand, the DAMF System is absolutely fantastic - fast cutting with a great finish in just a couple of steps.
